Chapter 32. Chop

Sam's pov

As Sunday came, I started to notice my hair and how long it's gotten. Then the dysmorphia came, and I started to hate myself again.

"Lin, can I get a haircut today?" I asked him as we sat in the living room. "Yeah of course kid. I was starting to wonder if you were going to cut it," Lin laughed.

"Let me see if we can go now. Let me call the barber shop and see if they can get you in," Lin said and made a call.

After a few minutes he hung up the phone. "Let's go," he said with a smile on his face, and stood up.

"Yay!" I squealed a little bit.

We got in the car and started down the road to the barber shop. I did know that the lady's in hair and makeup could cut my hair, but I felt bad for asking so this is second best.

When we arrived at the shop we walked in and the atmosphere was pumping. Chairs on either sides of the walls with mirrors infront of them.

We went up to the desk that was in the front and Lin started talking to the man.

"Hey, I just called and asked for an appointment for my son. Are you guys still free to do it?" Lin asked the tall dark skinned man infront of us.

"Yeah. What do you want done?" The man asked, taking me over to one of the stations.
"I'm not really sure. I've sort of always had it long," I told him, sitting down in the chair.

"Okay, do you want to chop it and cut it super short, or keep some of the length?" He asked me as he touched my hair a bit.

"I want to keep some of the length, but a lot shorter from what I have right now," I told the man. "I have this middle part wolf cut situation going on right now and I don't hate it, but I want a change. Maybe shorter on the sides and kind of long on top. I have sort of curly hair, so it will look kind of fluffy." I explained and tried to find a picture online.

"Okay. I get what you mean. Let's get some length off and then go from there okay?" He looked at me. I just nodded. I hope this turns out okay.

Later after the cut was done I felt amazing. "Okay are you ready to see your hair?" The guy asked, smiling. I nodded vigorously like Sebby did.

He turned the chair around to face the mirror and I looked. It was so good. It was exactly like I wanted it. The amount of euphoria that was flowing through my body was incredible. I don't know why anyone does drugs.

"You like?" He asked with a smile. "I love it! Thank you so much." I thanked him.

We went out to the waiting area where Lin sat. When he saw me his jaw dropped. "Oh my gosh I love it. You look so grown up," he said as he put an arm around me.

"I love it so much." I told Lin as he paid. "I'm so glad," he responded.

We got back home later and I flopped on my bed. I felt so good. Like this is the most euphoric I've felt in so long.

I opened my phone and saw I had gotten a DM on instagram. I rarely go on instagram so I was confused.

I opened the app and saw a name that made my heart race.

Cody Collins

I hadn't talked to him since that day in the weight room. We see each other in classes and in the gym, but we haven't spoken since then. Cody is the captain of the swim, water polo, and diving team; he is also a sophomore. Safe to say our paths don't cross that much.

Cody- Hey, wanted to see how you were doing. I know we haven't talked in a while, and you haven't been in class for the past few days. I heard a nasty rumor going around about you. Just wanted to make sure you were okay.

My heart fluttered and then sank as I read that text. What does he mean by rumor?

Sam- yeah I'm doing okay, just had a rough few days so I stayed home.  And what do you mean by rumor?

Cody- that's good to hear. I hope you come back soon. And I just heard from one of the girls on the diving team that you cheated on your ex-girlfriend. I know it isn't true because she got her sex tape leaked and it's been floating around the school.

WHAT?!

Sam- no absolutely not. That isn't true. She cheated on me. And thank you for knowing that. And I feel bad for her that that got leaked.

Cody- Yeah. No, I told the girl who told me that it wasn't true, and told her about the tape; she went back and told everyone else that she told that Aniyah cheated on you and not the latter. So it should all be fine when you come back.

Sam- that message made my head spin. But yeah I get it. Thank you for having my back.

Cody- lol.  yeah of course. That's what friends are for.

Friends. I have officially been dubbed as a friend.

I clicked off of the message and onto his profile.

It was mainly pictures of his dog and of him at swim meets and water polo games.

I wondered if he was super religious.

I looked up the scriptures and the first read "There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus."
Oh. He just believes in human rights.

I looked up the second one and it read "But God has shown me that I should not call anyone impure or unclean."

Okay I just gained a lot of respect for Cody.

I stopped stalking him and put my phone down. I'm glad he told me about the rumor going around. It made me mad that she would say stuff like that.

I think we jumped into our relationship before we really got to know each other. Like looking back at it there were so many red flags that I should have looked for.
Sure she loved me, but on the bad days she would yell at me. On her good days she held me tight and told me everything would be okay. But in her bad days she would blame me for everything. She would call me names and decide that I was out to get her.

At the end of the day I still love her. But I can't go back to her. Never again.

I looked back at my phone and saw I had a text from Cody.

Cody- We should hang out sometime

Sam- yeah that sounds cool. Maybe sometime this week. I'll be back tomorrow so if I don't have a pile of homework we definitely can.

Cody- sounds good.

I smiled and turned my phone off again. Maybe making friends isn't as hard as I thought. Maybe this was the start of something that I had never known.
