I woke up with a gasp, immediately flinging my bedsheets of and practically leaping off my bed the second my eyes opened—heart racing about a hundred miles an hour as I looked around, trying to desperately make sure that I was still there. I was, in fact, still in the avengers compound, to my immense relief. The sun seemed to just about be rising, and I check my alarm to see it was about half past seven—which meant I had gotten around five hours of sleep, which wasn't that bad.
"Miss Devoe, I did not mean to startle you, I apologise. Mr. Stark requested I wake you up as there is new information that seems to have come to light regarding your previous conversations last evening." As stupid as it looked, I turned my head to the roof of my room to try and locate the voice speaking to me, even though I recognised it perfectly.
"Alright, thank you, Jarvis. And don't say sorry, I would have gotten all confused and rushed if I'd woken up any later anyways, so I'm glad you did. Could you let Tony know that I'll be down as soon as I'm ready? It shouldn't take too long." I said softly, trying to rub the sleep out of my eyes while stumbling towards the bathroom.
"Of course, Miss Devoe. I shall let him know right away." It took me a good few minutes to fully wake up, but once I had, I rushed through a hot bath after brushing my teeth and slipped into the outfit Natasha had left for me in the room with a quick note. 'I know this is probably not your style, but its the best I could find. We'll find some better clothes once Tony's finished his debrief.' She had been right that what she'd left wasn't exactly what I'd wear on a day to day basis, but I didn't mind trying something new out. She had left a pair of black a-line flared bottom trousers with a burnt orange sweater to wear with, and I still had my trusty heeled black boots with me.
Less than twenty minutes since I'd woken up, and I was in the lift heading down to the kitchen where Tony was apparently holding the meeting. I walked into the room to see Tony, Natasha, Steve, Clint, Bruce and Thor all sitting around the table—Tony handing out breakfast to everyone as they seemed to be pestering him to let them know what was happening. "Oh, she's here! We can get started now." he said, nodding my way before settling down on the head chair, or, in this case kitchen stool, before looking around the group. "Firstly, Thor came back with good news this morning—the Tesseract is still safe on Asgard, and he had a chat with Heimdall, who claims he can find these Guardians you speak of if given just a few days. Apparently he already has an idea of where they might be, but needs to find a way to get in touch with them."
I grabbed a strawberry from a fruit bowl lying on the table before moving to make myself a cup of coffee. "That's great! We should be able to get our hands on the Power stone pretty soon, then. What was the other thing?"
Tony smiled, "I've located the HYRDA base in Sokovia. Just say when, and we can have the team ready to take it down."
I took a sip of my steaming coffee, this morning already seeming to be going a whole lot better than the last one. "We should get there as soon as possible—if you guys can... how about tomorrow morning? You can ask the others if they're free for then, and I'll try writing down a better summary of the fight there so we can get it over with quickly. Plus... there are a few, uh, people, you're gonna meet there. It's gonna definitely be something trying to explain them to you." After we had agreed on that, I was rushed away by Natasha who said we were meeting Pepper out front to go to some shops on Tony's card. I barely had time to finish my coffee before we were out of the building and sitting in a highly fancy car, on our way out for a girls day.
We ended up spending almost three hours at the mall, Natasha and Pepper practically forcing me to buy anything I even looked at with interest. It was a wild feeling—but one I was sure I could get used to if I wasn't careful. My family was pretty well off, but still, we had never had this kind of money to just throw around on anything and everything. Natasha and Pepper had also caved at some point and started picking out things for themselves, which made the experience a lot less awkward and actually quite fun. We grabbed a quick lunch in the mall itself, before heading back to the avengers tower.
