"Cap, its Sam, can you hear me?" I watched, feeling a swell of emotion blur my vision as a portal opened behind Steve. "On your left." And then... they were all there. I would be lying if I said I didn't get chills in that moment, having to wipe a way a stray tear or two as I watched the thousands and thousands of Wakandan fighters arrive in Strange's portals—accompanied by all the ones we had lost in the battle as well. Dr Strange had obviously joined our ranks for this fight, but I realised that Peter was there as well, somehow, and so was Hope. I guessed that when they'd woken up from the snap, they had all realised what had gone down, and rushed to help out. I smiled uncontrollably as I saw Vision sly over to greet Wanda, who broke character just for a few seconds—long enough to give the man a quick hug and whisper something to him before turning back to Thanos, who was watching all the people arrive, for the first time having a real emotion of shock on his face as he did so.
"Mr Stark!" I had to bite the inside of my cheek to stop a half laugh half sob from escaping my mouth as I watched Peter run over to where Tony was lying, helping the man up before embracing him in a hug—one that I was glad to see Tony reciprocated. In that moment, I swore to myself that I wouldn't be letting the poor boy cry over Tony's death—not today, and not for a long time if I could help it. But I was sure about one thing, I wasn't going to let Tony Stark die in that battle... no matter what it took. I had managed to save Natasha from losing her life for the Soul stone, so I knew that the deaths that took place over the course of the movies were not things that had to happen. And so I wasn't going to let them.
The sorcerers from Kamar-Taj surrounded Doctor Strange, who had flown down near where I had been standing—close enough for me to be able to hear him ask one of the men if everyone had made it through the portals, to which he replied with the iconic, "What? You wanted more?"
It was clear that in that moment, something in the air had shifted—no one seemed to care that the whole lawn of the compound had been trashed, and the avengers who had all been knocked to the ground were all slowly standing up, joining the ranks of our side. I couldn't help let my eyes scan over the people lining up behind the avengers for one person in particular, but being unable to spot him anywhere, I sighed, tearing my eyes away from the crowds I was trying to feverishly search across and instead move to take a spot next to Natasha and Steve. I looked up to the sky along with the people around me a second later as a bolt of lightning shot across the field, and I spotted Thor flying down next to Steve—looking a lot better than he had the last time I'd seen him, this time almost fully covered in electricity. The Wakandan ships were the last things to come through Strange's portals all across the battlefield—covering the air troops, before the orange circles started closing, and everyone got ready to attack.
"Avengers..." I took one quick look at Steve before pulling out my own guns, taking one in each hand as I aimed at the opposing team—not really caring who I was shooting at as long as I hit something. "Assemble."
The roar that went up from our side of the field filled me with what I was sure was enough adrenaline to keep me on my feet for the next month or so if it was necessary—but in that moment I settled for rushing forward with Natasha, shooting at whatever and whoever I could that wasn't on our team. Thanos almost immediately vanished into the crown, and even though I tried to keep an eye on him, it was nearly impossible to do so when they were at least a dozen things attacking me every few seconds, so instead I settled on keeping an eye on Tony as best as I could, to make sure he didn't get a chance to try anything stupid when it came to the stones. Speaking of the stones—I almost got crushed by an oncoming huge alien that Steve thankfully took care of before I got killed, but I was too busy watching Clint rush out of the compound with the gauntlet clutched under one arm, in horror, to thank the Captain before he ran off again. "CLINT NO! Get those stones as far away from here as you can! You can't let Thanos get near them!" I screamed into the intercom that was fighting to stay in place in my ear as I tried sprinting towards where Clint was, but almost instantly got sidetracked in helping Scott not get skewered. Clint shouted back something that I couldn't quite understand in the heat of firing a few dozen bullets at a bunch of aliens, and by the time I looked back at where he had been, the man was no where to be seen.
