The battle was immediately in full force, Steve and T'Challa being the first two out of our fighters to reach the creatures who had started pouring into Wakanda and initiating the battle. I knew I had to focus on two things—staying near Natasha and Loki as I knew I'd have to make sure to be near Loki when the time for our plan to trigger came, and also because I knew Natasha would inevitably lead us to Wanda when she went to her rescue later in the battle, which I also knew I needed to be around for. And two, keeping an eye out of when exactly our plan triggered—as I knew there was a chance Thanos tried taking a more discreet tactic to at least get hold of the Mind stone before be came after Loki and I for the last one, and that we could easily miss him in the midst of the battle and completely ruin the plan, which was why I had asked Tony and Thor to stick around with Vision and Wanda for the time being.
I knew we would need Thor to intervene in the battle and somehow manage to harness his true power over lightning in that moment, as he had never needed to use it before then in this universe, but the god had assured me he knew how to call on it, and I had chosen to believe him. But first I wanted Thanos to show up, so that Thor's sudden appearance would hopefully help distract the titan a bit for us. "Come on... come on." I whispered, very stressed as I strained my eyes to try and spot the purple guy somewhere near the outskirts of the battlefield, which was where he would be waiting I was sure. I looked to Loki, who was fighting some of the aliens nearby and managed to catch his eye for a second before sending a few bullets into the skull of one of the creatures myself. But the look had been enough for Loki to understand I needed to speak to him, and the god somehow managed to make his way through the aliens towards me. "Loki, he's not here. You gotta do your thing." I managed to spit out before getting pulled back into battle with one of the things that had jumped me—but I smiled as I threw it off, seeing Loki having raised his hands that were now glowing green with some sort of electricity. In one swift movement, the god spread his hands and the green energy flew all across the field, taking out what was probably a third of the opposing team.
Loki looked horribly pale, but I knew that that was exactly what we had needed to catch Thanos's attention. Sure enough, a few seconds later I spotted the man himself standing in the distance near the tree line of the forest outside of Wakanda, and even though that was what I wanted, I felt my blood run cold at the sight. There was no one with him, and I realised he really believed he could take down anyone and everyone in that moment with the four stones he already had, which, was very possibly true. "Loki, Loki give me the Tesseract." I half mumbled, stumbling up to the man and grabbing hold of his shoulders, trying to make him focus on me though whatever he seemed to be going through. "Loki, I know you're tired, but Tesseract. Now." The god seemed to snap into action then and fumbling through one of his coat pockets, pulling the small blue cube out of it—I grabbed it almost immediately out of his hands, causing Loki to let out a sound of protest, but I shook my head at him, already on the move. "No, you've done what you had to, Loki. Relax for a bit or you're gonna pass out or something. You can go back to throwing your knives around for a bit—I'll be right back." Without waiting for a response, I ran towards where Thanos was standing, watching the battle unfold.
"Wanda, get out here for a few seconds and send those huge wheel things that are right underground at the aliens for me, would you?" I called through my intercom, and get a response from the woman a few seconds later. Sure enough, I watched with satisfaction as the other teams weapons were turned against them—Wanda having managed to pull the huge things form underground, all now surrounded in her red magic as they hurtled towards the creatures on the field, taking out another few dozen when they landed. "Thank you." I said breathlessly to my ear piece as I reached the outskirts of the battle, not knowing if Wanda was even listening in anymore but still wanting to let her know she'd done great.
