"You ready for this?" I asked, even though I knew I was asking the question more to myself than the man standing beside me, but Loki nodded nonetheless. I took a deep breath, trying my best not to shiver in the freezing late November air as snow had started falling almost immediately after we had stepped outside, the fact that it was still barely dawn wasn't helping the situation at all as the sun didn't even have a chance to warm me up. "Alright then, do your thing. Can't stand around here forever, I guess." Even though thats exactly what I wanted to do in that moment, was left unsaid, but I was pretty sure Loki understood what I meant by those words as he looked up to the sky and called for Heimdall. I realised why I had wanted to wear something fancy as soon as we arrived on Asagrd, and silently thanked myself for choosing a black and silver formal top and flared pants, at least not being in a t-shit and jeans surrounded by people in glittering golden robes all around. I would have worn a dress or something, but considering that we would be traveling to Titan later that day, I had decided I would need to stay a bit practical with my clothing as well.
Heimdall greeted us before Loki took my arm and quickly led me down the long bridge that led to the main part of Asagrd, the two of us heading straight to the room that Thor had already shown me on my last visit here. I was glad to see that at some point Loki's access to the treasures room had been restored, which, I realsied, was why Odin probably didn't want him living on Asgard at all times. I didn't really understand his plan... why let Loki have access to the room if he could just take that away so easily and let him live peacefully on Asagrd without anyone having to worry about him stealing anything from there? But I knew now was not the time to be questioning the Allfathers choices as to how he guarded his most precious treasures, so instead I just shook the thoughts from my mind as I followed Loki into the room. I almost gasped, seeing all the infinity stones lined up each on their own pedestal looking display, the power or all four stones almost too much to handle. Loki, though, didn't seem to be too bothered by the pure aura of intensity around the objects, as he muttered something to open the first glass casing around the Tesseract and pick it up. I was handed the blue cube to my surprise as Loki moved over to the next display, opening as he had done with the fist and closing the small round metal box around the Power stone before taking it out and placing it in one of his coats pockets. I handed the Tesseract back to Loki as soon as he had finished re-placing the stones in their boxes that Tony had fashioned for them from the design of the one that the Power stone had been found in, the feeling of holding the cube making my hands shake a bit as I stuffed them in my coat pockets to hide the sign of weakness from the man next to me. I didn't want Loki knowing how I could barely handle holding one infinity stone for a few minutes, and that too inside the covering of the Tesseract around the Space stone.
Loki gestured for me to take hold of his arm like he had done mine a few minutes before, and I complied, raising an eyebrow at the man. "Are you sure you're ready for this? I'm not sure I am, but I know I have to do this, its what I'm here for. But... I-I know what Thanos has done to you in the past, and... I just-just wanted to... are you sure you're okay doing this?"
To my surprise, Loki laughed softly, turning to look at me with an incredulous look in his eyes. "You really are one of the most valiant mortals I have ever met, aren't you? I can't even begin to imagine myself ever knowing I would be standing here, being asked by a mortal who has so many more chances of getting killed in war if I was ready to face someone. You continue to surprise me more and more with each passing day I have been sentenced to spend with you, my lady." His words may have offended a lot of people if they were spoken to them, but I could tell from the tone he used Loki was joking around in his usual Loki way. "I am fine with doing this, really. Fear... it is not something I am accustomed to feeling about most things, and I am not about to change that when it comes to Thanos. Besides, he is not going to kill either of us until he has gotten an answer from you about his future plans, which we are not planning to give him anytime soon." I was glad to see his iconic devilish grin return to his face as he held up the Tesseract, and within seconds we were standing somewhere completely different.
