Another few days had passed without event, and it was finally time for Tony and Pepper to arrive back at the compound later that evening. It was almost the new years, and Loki had informed us that the party on Asgard would indeed be hold the night the year shifted, and we'd called with Tony and Pep to confirm that they would be alright with that since it would be the second day after their return, which they thankfully agreed to. Most the of other avengers were very excited about the prospect of being invited to visit the golden realm without impending doom lingering over our stay there, but even though most people had tried asking Loki and Thor what they were meant to wear to the ball, as none of us had any idea what the 'right' kind of outfit was to such an event... but the brothers just insisted on us showing up there without bothering to worry about such stuff.

"You do not have to think about attire for this ball... everything will be taken care of once you lot reach Asgard, I promise you won't be made to wear anything you're not comfortable in, it will be your choice." Loki had said vaguely when I'd cornered him earlier that day, actually forcing myself to start a conversation with the man that he hadn't had to instigate. Granted, I had gotten tired of his unwillingness to give me any real answers quite quickly and managed to nail the god in the head with a pillow before he had the chance to say much more, resulting in me having to run out of my room screaming in terror as Loki chased me down the halls of the compound, trying to aim at least five or six pillows he had floating next to him with his magic, ready to fling at me.

I knew that I wouldn't have enough time to wait for the lift to reach our floor if I wanted to really take this 'war' seriously and not get pelted by my own magic pillows that Loki had made betray me, and decided to instead run down the other side of the corridor. I hadn't been down there very often, and definitely not past where Natasha and Loki's rooms were. The rooms seemed to end as I ran, and instead huge windows overlooking the lawn outside seemed to line this part of the hallway. I reached the end, still hearing the unmistakable sound of Loki walking behind me as I did so, not knowing where to go next. The only thing at the end of the corridor if I didn't want to throw myself out of one of the windows was a wooden door and I had no clue where it led, so obviously I tried the door to see if it was locked or not. To my relief, it opened easily at my touch and I quickly slipped through and shut it behind me with a click—knowing that Loki was a mere few steps behind me as I started running down the stairs without even thinking. "You cannot outrun me, Miss Devoe. I would advise you to give up now."

A chill ran through my body at Loki's echoing voice as he stepped into the stairwell kind of place I had run into, and even though I knew I was very much taking the whole bit too seriously, I was ready to commit to what I had started now. "Nope, sorry. You have to catch me." Knowing I had really done myself in with those few words, I tried to speed up as I clambered down the stairs, hearing Loki's footsteps get faster as well. I ran for what felt like minutes, holding my breath the whole time until I finally saw a door at the bottom of one last set of stairs. Seeing my chance to get away from Loki, I absolutely booked it down the last flight, praying I didn't trip and fall and ruin everything at the last moment as I reached the door. Thankfully, I managed to push the door open and rush out into what I realised was near the living room slash kitchen of the compound on the ground floor. Natasha watched me sprint by with mild interest as I made my way back to where the lift was, hoping that I would be able to trick Loki by getting back up to our floor without him realising. But of course with my luck, I managed to leap into the lift just as Loki caught up with me, stepping into the small area just as the doors closed. "What now, Deove?" He asked with a smirk—knowing that even though the pillows he had been chasing me with weren't able to come in the lift, they would be waiting for us when we arrived at the top floor.

I sighed in defeat as the god triumphantly leaned against the doors of the lift as it started moving again, waiting to reach our floor. "Rude." Was all I could think of mumbling in that moment, as my mind was somewhere else entirely. Just as Loki seemed to relax and drop his guard, thinking he had won our sudden war, I practically jumped at the man—pushing past him in any effort to just get to the control panel of the lift before the doors opened. I managed, having been able to take the god by surprise for just long enough that I could fanatically press the buttons leading to every floor before the one we were meant to get off at. Loki looked at me in shock, as if he couldn't believe what I had just done, before tackling me to the ground—making me cry out in surprise as I tried to fight him off. "What 'r you even planning to do!? You can't fight me, Tony'll kill you." I said through laughs, my voice muffled as the man basically landed on top of me as the lift came to a stop.
