"Why do I suddenly have this feeling that I can't get enough to eat? What's going on?" Yang Qiong said self-deprecatingly.
"Let's save some of our salary for now... since we have to live like this for a year," Shen Qiuhua advised. They had already learned from the personnel officer that it was a common policy for new teachers: the salary in the first year was only three hundred a month.
"Why don't we just quit? Is this meager salary enough to live on?" Yang Qiong said.
"But I..." Shen Qiuhua hesitated. With her teaching college degree, what else could she do besides being a teacher? Or rather, for a woman who had time-traveled from ancient times, adapting to a new job was already difficult enough, she hadn't considered having to adapt to another job so soon.
Yang Qiong guessed her thoughts from her hesitation. "Are you worried about having to start over again?"
"I've just made some acquaintances and gotten used to the school environment." Shen Qiuhua looked into Yang Qiong's eyes and added, "But if you decide not to continue, I will naturally follow your lead."
"Why?" Yang Qiong asked, puzzled. Shen Qiuhua wasn't a person without opinions.
"When you marry a chicken, you follow the chicken; when you marry a dog, you follow the dog. I belong to you, so naturally, I will follow you." In Shen Qiuhua's mind, everything was that simple. No matter how much she adapted, her past thoughts were entrenched.
Yang Qiong smiled and playfully lifted her small chin. "That's right. You are mine. Just quit the job and I'll take care of you."
"No." Shen Qiuhua pouted. She didn't know where she'd picked up this habit from some TV show, but she had recently taken to doing it, and as a result, Yang Qiong often found herself staring blankly at her lips.
"You must like being a teacher, right?"
Shen Qiuhua didn't answer. "Let's just do it for a while longer." She looked at Yang Qiong with a questioning gaze.
With such a cautious look, how could Yang Qiong resist? Whatever Shen Qiuhua said at this moment, she felt she could only agree. "Alright, I'll go along with you."
"Speaking of which, even if we both endure this first year, the salary will only be two thousand, just enough for food. But the quality of life..." Yang Qiong calculated and felt hopeless. Who the hell said teachers had high salaries? She wanted to find that person and beat them up. Wasn't that openly spreading rumors?
"Would doing other odd jobs earn more money?" Shen Qiuhua remembered that Yang Qiong still had some savings and couldn't help but be curious about her previous bodyguard's salary.
"Sometimes you can earn one or two times more," Yang Qiong honestly couldn't dare to say more.
"That much?" Shen Qiuhua was surprised. "It seems teachers not only don't get respect, but they also don't earn money."
"You understand, that's good." Yang Qiong didn't say much. Since Shen Qiuhua was already aware of the situation, she would know how to choose.
During the rare National Day holiday, Yang Qiong wanted to take Shen Qiuhua around to nearby cities. But when they stepped onto the street and saw the crowd... she was so frightened that she obediently took Shen Qiuhua back home.
What a joke! With such a beautiful person by her side, wouldn't she get lost in the crowd? Anyway, she should think of their safety first.
The two of them had winter and summer vacations— this was probably the only benefit of being a teacher.
"What are you doing?" In the afternoon, Shen Qiuhua was reading on the sofa, but before she could flip two pages, Yang Qiong snatched the book away.
"Qiuhua, it's hard to find some free time, and you aren't keeping me company." Yang Qiong sulked like a child deprived of playmates.
