"The strangest thing happened to me just now," (Y/N) said as she slid into her seat next to Amar and shrugged her backpack off to settle comfortably into the chair.

"What?" He hummed as he flicked his pencil in between his fingers.

"You know Valen?"

"Yeah, isn't he the guy Jess is kinda interested in?" He questioned, (Y/N) somewhat flinching when he glanced up a her rather quickly upon the mention of Valen, his dark eyes narrowing. "Did he do something to you? Or say something?"

"No, he... he didn't do anything bad, he just started talking to me," she shook her head, watching as Amar visibly relaxed from her words, but just barely. "Anyways, it was so random, you know, since we've only talked, like, twice before even though we're in a couple of classes together."

"So... he's being nice?"

"Well, maybe he was since a couple weeks back he helped me out of a situation with that bastard Nicolai," she theorized, groaning upon mention of Nicolai alone.

"Nicolai...?" Amar's lips twitched.

"Don't even try to fight him, you'd lose," (Y/N) chuckled with a role of his eyes. "Immediately."

He scowled at her.

"Hey, I'm just telling the truth," she shrugged again, smiling in victory when the teacher walked in and a tipped Amar before he could retaliate.

"Class, please be quiet," the chemistry teacher, Ms. Pérez, a woman of average stature with brown skin and brown hair that curled around her shoulders, announced as she pushed up her glasses and walked to the front of the room. "We're going to switch up the seating arrangement first and foremost, so can everyone please stand up?"

Most everyone groaned at that announcement—(Y/N) and Amar included—but listened and did as they were told. When (Y/N) slid into her new seat, she almost was surprised when seeing that her new desk mate was Silvius.

Key word: almost.

Ms. Pérez was a woman that knew everything about everyone, and that extended to most students save for their personal lives—she had no need for that information. Therefore, (Y/N) was sure that Mr. Möller had something to do with the seating arrangement, especially since he and Ms. Pérez were such good friends and the not-so-secret fact that he thought Silvius and (Y/N) were a good match. Giving Silvius a small smile, knowing quite sure that he still hadn't gotten over whoever he had waited too long for, she tried to make the best of the situation.

It wasn't that she didn't like him, it just seemed that he didn't like her.

Well...

He did try and help with Amar...

But after that, he hasn't really tried to converse with me at all.

"So... I told my friend what you told me," she whispered after a solid beat of silence and the rustling of paper from Ms. Pérez being the only sound in the room. "The advice that you gave me the other day? Not particularly for matching him with my friend, but just for himself in the future."

Silvius glanced at her from the corner of his eye, but didn't say anything.

"So... I wanted to thank you for trying to help," she resumed nevertheless, seemingly not too bothered by his silence. "And... I hope that you are okay, too."

"I'm fine, why wouldn't I be?" He finally spoke, continuing to stare ahead without looking at her.

"It... just sounded like you were speaking from experience."

"And what gave you that idea?"

"You looked... kind of sad?" She started awkwardly, remembering the expression he wore when he spoke to her that day in the art room. "If I was wrong, then I'm sorry for insinuating. And... sorry if I'm overstepping, or anything."

After (Y/N)'s apology, the two fell silent again and turned their attention back to the front where Ms. Pérez had launched into a lesson explaining the concept of chemical bonding that most everyone looked to not care about in the slightest. Her eyes eventually wandered to where Amar sat, his new partner being the exact cliche of a jock: brawny, careless, and sleeping in class.

Ah... the pity I feel for him.

"Your insinuations are correct," Silvius suddenly declared in a soft tone, snapping her back to attention.

"...I see."

"...Aren't you going to ask what happened?"

"Do you want me to?"

"...No... not particularly."

"Then, I won't," she shook her head with a slightly awkward smile. "No matter how big my curiosity is, if you don't want me to ask, then I won't."

For the first time since she had met him, he smiled. It was genuine, too—reaching his eyes and making the amber color almost seem to glow. She knew he was good-looking before, and now that he actually smiled, all of his features softened and instead of a chiseled god that was out of reach, he was back down to earth again. But this only made him more attractive. Swallowing a bit from the sudden shock to her senses, she returned the smile—albeit hers was a bit crooked and she knew she didn't look as good as him—before turning back to the front.

Wow.

Damn.

How can a teenage boy be this fine?

If this isn't a Wattpad story, then I don't know what it is anymore at this point.

As she settled into the routine of taking notes and trying to listen to Ms. Pérez and pick up on the things that she had missed talking with Silvius, the bell rang before she could finish the task. Cursing and knowing that she'd have to ask Amar for the first half of the class' notes, she began to pack but stopped when Silvius stopped her.

"Here," he handed her a slip of folded paper before shrugging his bag on.

"What's this?" She questioned, raising a brow.

"My number," he reverted back to his mask of stone, but for some reason she could still feel the warmth behind it. "Call me sometime."

With that, he walked out the door.
