039 | Shift
Man...Psychology was a damn nightmare.
Trudging into Chemistry after her third period class that she had to suffer through due to having Valen's presence constantly near her, (Y/N) wished the floor would swallow her whole so she wouldn't have to deal with him anymore. No matter what she threatened him with, no matter how many times she dropped not-so-subtle hints for him to stay away from her, he only continued to sidle closer.
She hated him.
She hated him so much.
And when seeing the bruise that had started to form on his jaw from where she had punched him, she felt a sense of pride.
It also made her want to punch him again.
Trying to shake the annoying boy from her thoughts, (Y/N) let her gaze sweep around the classroom to instantly find Amar sitting in the middle of the space giving her a small wave. Just as she took her first step toward him, she spotted Silvius out of the corner of her eye in the back just staring out the window with a bored expression resting on his face. As much as she loved Amar, she couldn't help but remember his suspicions from this morning. Not wanting to undergo any more interrogations from him, (Y/N) swiftly walked past him and tried to ignore the hurt look that instantly swept across his features as he whirled around in his chair to look back at her in disbelief.
"Hey," she greeted Silvius with a small smile as she took a seat.
"Hey..." he trailed off at her sudden presence, however not at all hating the fact and even sitting up a little bit straighter.
She's here.
She's sitting next to me, not her brother.
She picked me.
I knew it...
I knew that she would rather have me than him, and I knew she valued our friendship more than what she has with Amar.
Trying to bite back the rather twisted grin that wanted to show, Silvius had to practically force his eyes off of (Y/N) who didn't notice his stare since she was too busy unpacking her binder with her homework, turning his attention towards the front. But as soon as he did, his eyes clashed with those of Amar's whose gaze cut into him with a cool tone that suggested anything friendly.
Silvius stared right back.
She picked me.
Not you.
She will never pick you again, because she has me as her friend and support.
She'll never need you like she does me.
Never.
As if able to sense Silvius' thoughts, Amar could feel his lips curl into a sneer of disgust when looking at him, finding that the people (Y/N) had been associating with disturbing. He didn't know why, but since he had lived with her since young, he felt a sense of duty to protect her and be there for her whenever she needed it, and these people—these boys that seemed anything but sane—made his teeth grit in aggravation.
He had to protect (Y/N).
She was his life—his entire being.
Amar wouldn't be able to live with himself if he let anything happen to her, and no matter what, he was going to find a way to separate her from these people whom he viewed as lower than dirt.
"Amar?" A loud voice from the front exclaimed that made him immediately turn back around, finding himself now staring into his teacher's eyes. "I do not know what is so interesting about the back of the room, but if you could perhaps direct that sort of interest to the front where I am teaching, it would be much appreciated."
He gave a sheepish laugh.
Yet, his eyes were frigid.
Of course, Ms. Pérez, sorry," he apologized and took out his notebook to act like he was busy.
Seeming to believe him, Ms. Pérez turned back to the board and continued her lesson on balancing equations, not noticing the way Amar let out a small sigh of relief. However, that feeling to him was short lived when knowing that he had a lot to do beside school work to make sure that (Y/N) didn't end up in trouble due to Silvius, Nicolai, or any of the others that surrounded her.
But...
How can I convince her.
She seems to have gotten a lot closer to that Nicolai guy... fuck.
I hate that.
I really hate that.
Feeling something twist around his heart at the thought of (Y/N) and Nicolai ever being friends, of ever being something more than friends, Amar had to hold himself back from twisting his nails into his palms and drawing blood.
One problem after another...
First Roselle...
And now this.
Well, at least that first problem has been dealt with so I can now focus on this second one.
But if it's just as difficult...
Gritting his teeth, he focused on the lesson in hopes that some time away from thinking about his multitudinous problems would help in finding solutions to them, unaware that Silvius was practically burning holes in the back of his head. After Ms. Pérez suddenly called Amar out, (Y/N) had kept glancing at him with worry reflected in her (E/C) gaze, and Silvius kept noticing that.
He hated it.
He despised having her attention anywhere else but him, since she would always have his attention.
It wouldn't be fair, then.
Trying to smoothen his expression, he set one hand on (Y/N)'s shoulder, successfully capturing her awareness, and smiled softly. He didn't want her to focus on her brother anymore, but he also didn't want her to be stressed. He wanted her to be at ease. He always felt at ease around her, so he wanted her to feel the same. And after comforting her on the roof just a few days ago, Silvius could see that the little things went a long way for her, and that no matter what, he would make her see that he would travel any distance so that she would stay beside him.
After her, he wouldn't let someone else slip from his grasp again.
He would never allow that.
