As Jian sat opposite of (Y/N) during English, he couldn't help but keep his gaze steady on her since, once again, Nicolai wasn't there. What was more, she was too absorbed into Mrs. Young's lesson to notice his stare, and to notice the guilt that brewed within.

It was only natural, though.

For him to feel guilty.

As his fists clenched at his sides, his teeth gritting so hard one might think they would crack, the onslaught of rage and terror that gripped him was insurmountable when he thought about losing (Y/N) just like he did Mei so long ago. He couldn't stand that he wasn't able to help her when Roselle had taken her, and now with Valen suddenly proclaiming her as his girlfriend.

He knew that that wasn't true.

He knew that (Y/N) would never be with Valen.

But even as he so wished to tell her his true feelings, to hopefully redeem his failures in the future, there was one thing he was certain of: Valen was completely serious about (Y/N). After knowing Valen his entire life, Jian knew that one thing was completely true, no matter of his friend's heartbreaks in the past or his lack of care attitude towards those said heartbreaks. Valen cared about (Y/n)—desired her—the same way Jian did, he knew that much.

And he hated it all the same.

For a while, he had thought of (Y/N) as a sister to him just like Mei was, but unfortunately, such a pure thing couldn't last. He had tried to use other girls to help stave those feelings off, but no matter how much he lied and cheated and dated to feel some sort of emotion without her, it didn't work. How could it when to him, she was a ray of light in his dark life?

It wasn't long before he fell for her, really.

Not long at all.

But not once did he regret it.

If anything, he regretted that he ever had her think that he only saw her as a sister.

She was more to him.

Much more.

Now, to see his childhood friend take away the one he so desired and longed for made the anger inside of him bubble upward until he wasn't sure he could take it anymore. Every instinct told him to beat Valen down until he could no longer say that (Y/N) was his girlfriend, wanting to rip him apart even so that no longer would he ever be reminded of that fact that he ever said such ridiculous claims.

But he couldn't.

He knew that he couldn't let his anger get the best of him, not when there was something he still had to confirm first.

"Hey," (Y/N) said as she waved a hand in front of his face, successfully snapping him from his gaze but instantly making his cheeks darken when he saw how close she was. "Are you okay? You're zoning out, and Mrs. Young gave us an assignment to complete before class was over."

"R-Right," he stuttered as he tried to regain his composure. "Sorry."

"Are you sure you're not still sick?"

"I'm fine! I'm fine! Just... a bit tired, I guess."

"I see. Make sure to get to bed early tonight, okay? Now, let's get to work on this sheet..." she hummed as her eyes started to scan the paper, still not noticing the way Jian gazed at her affectionately.

He loved that she was worried about him.

He loved everything about her.

He knew that he would do anything to profess that love publicly to her.

It would mean that he would go to extremes for her, no matter the cost or consequence, because he knew that in the end, it would be worth it if he was able to have her. And that type of thinking is what led him to practically stalk and observe (Y/n) whenever she was with Valen—or with anyone really—to make sure that she would only ever want him. He wanted to make sure there was no instance—no one to keep them apart.

But the more he observed, the more he saw.

There were many obstacles.

Many.

He could see it in the way that Valen acted, in the way that Nicolai acted, that (Y/N) meant much more to them than some simple classmate. He even made sure to be wary around her brother since he too was too suspicious not to count.

But then there was Silvius.

Out of everyone, Silvius was the most composed with his emotions toward (Y/N), and Jian knew that that also made him the most dangerous. Deciding to test his theory, Jian stayed home from school one day feigning sick again so he could sneak out of his house and into Silvius' own, having donned an all black outfit that dark and rather stormy day to blend in more easily. What struck him as difficult was having bypass the layers of security that the other boy's house had, counting more than once the couple of times he was almost caught. But he successfully made it to Silvius' room, and what he saw only confirmed his suspicions.

As he walked around the room, glancing at all of the photos of (Y/N) that were taken—he even noticing some that were of her sleeping in her house—he stopped dead in his tracks when seeing photos of people other than the girl. Even though he saw his own picture tacked up with notes scribbled beside it, his gaze was instead focused on the one with a red X.

It's... Roselle.

His eyes could only widen as his breath hitched, a sudden realization dawning on him that made his skin crawl in sheer horror.

Holy, shit.

Silvius killed her, didn't he?

And going off of all of these photos of (Y/N)... it's because he's obsessed with her and wanted revenge, isn't it?

As a small, dry laugh escaped his lips, Jian raised his phone and took pictures of every single angle in the room, wanting to make sure there was sufficient enough evidence to show (Y/N). He would make her so disgusted of Silvius that she would have no choice but to turn to him.

When she did, he'd revel in her attention.
