Trying to ignore the way Nicolai practically stuck by her side, having been waiting for her outside of Japanese as soon as class was over, (Y/N) walked into Psychology and grit her teeth from the sympathetic look that Mr. Ryder gave her.

I've been seeing that all day...

I get it.

Just... move on so I can, too.

Lowering her gaze to the ground, she walked up the few steps to the pew that she normally sat at, hesitated just at the entrance of it, and then continued upward. Not wanting to be in the middle of the room where everyone could see her, she instead wandered toward the back, Nicolai following. As she unpacked her bag, she was surprised when seeing a pair of feet stop next to her. Letting her eyes travel upward, she immediately reeled backwards when seeing Valen staring down at her with a rather impassive expression on his face.

Not saying a word, not even throwing her a sly grin that he had been doing quite often ever since their kiss, he sat down next to her and tuned in to what Mr. Ryder was explaining. A few minutes of silence stretched by with only the teacher's voice present in the room.

Then Valen broke it.

"I heard what happened," he muttered under his breath as he slouched forward in his chair, his blue eyes still glued to the front. "There's not much I can say other than sorry."

"I don't need your apology," she uttered as felt her fists tighten on the desk.

"I know you don't," he sighed. "I just thought I'd put it out there."

"How can you keep doing this?" She let out an exasperated sigh as she turned toward him, searching his eyes for something—anything—that told her he felt any guilt for what he had done. "Doesn't this get tiring? Acting like you care for Jess when you're only with her to amuse yourself and torture me? When will you get over yourself?"

Valen didn't answer her.

"Yeah, that's what I thought," she grumbled as she faced forward again.

On the other side of (Y/N), Nicolai leaned back so that he could see past her towards Valen, his amber eyes blazing the longer he stared at him. He didn't understand most of their conversation due to how they had been whispering, but he knew that something had happened between them that made her wary of him and he even more in tune to her presence.

It puzzled Nicolai.

But it also irritated him as well.

He knew that (Y/N) wasn't one to take anyone's shit, and that included him. So, he couldn't help but wonder just what Valen was holding over her that made her act like this.

However, he did know one thing.

It involved someone named 'Jess.'

When Valen finally caught Nicolai glaring him down, he did nothing but stare back, his blue eyes like two blades that seemed to want to cut the other down entirely. He didn't understand why he felt so shitty, but seeing Nicolai glaring at him as if he were trash on the side of the road made him feel even shittier. Maybe it was that fact that he had noticed him sticking quite closely to (Y/N)'s side that annoyed him, or maybe it was the fact that because of that little stunt he did at his concert, she still hated him and wouldn't let him get any closer.

But Nicolai could.

Valen had noticed that he and (Y/N) had been getting along a lot better recently.

He's like a fucking dog, following her around.

Can she not see that?

No, she's fucking traumatized because of some bitch, and now I'm not the only one on her mind—not the only one that can torture her.

I wonder though...

Could I somehow use this to my advantage?

She'll be vulnerable after a situation like this... fragile... easily scared... and if I play my cards right, she'll fall right into my hands.

Even though that had been what he wanted since (Y/N) flatly informed him that she wasn't interested in him—something that he very much hated—Valen still didn't feel satisfied. Crossing his arms over his chest and planting his feet on the ground, he mulled over why he felt that way, but intrigued as to why he felt like that in the first place.

Is it because I don't want to hurt her any more?

No...

But then what is it?

I want nothing more than to watch (Y/N) humiliate herself by chasing me after she humiliated me...

But it's not enough.

I want... more.

I need more than that from her.

To make her completely mine to destroy and manipulate, I want her to have more than a brief interest in me... I want her to completely want me... just as much as I want her.

Working his jaw at his suddenly new and different thought process, Valen glanced at (Y/N) next to him, finding that even though he hadn't thought of it before, he found her stunning. After that, it was far too difficult for him to try and focus on Mr. Ryder's lesson, too busy taking glancing at (Y/N) to care. And even when the bell rang and separated them, ignoring the sharp glare that Nicolai threw him once more, his mind was consumed with her.

He wanted to know everything about her.

Everything.

If he wanted to have all of her, he needed to know all of her.

When the lunch bell rang, Valen was intent on finding (Y/N) again and making sure that he went through with his plans. Packing his bag quickly as the Art teacher called out after him to finish his sketches by tomorrow, he rushed into the cafeteria and was immediately disappointed when not seeing her within.

Someone else found him, though.

"Valen!" A rather enthusiastic voice called out to him, Jess walking over to him with a smile.

He smiled back.

Fucking hell.
