Upon walking into Psychology that next day, Valen was pleasantly surprised when (Y/N) pulled him by his wrist down next to where she was sitting. Unfortunately, her attention on him was for the very reason he didn't want to discuss with her.

"Did you ask Jess out yet?" She started.

Sighing, however complying with her question, he responded, "Yes, I have class with her last period, and so I asked then."

"What did she say?"

"Yes, obviously," he smirked, propping his head up with his hand as he flashed her a wink.

"Right..." she rolled her eyes at that, obviously not too keen on being flirted with, much to Valen's chagrin. "Whatever. Just don't mess this up, okay? Jess, she's... she's one of my best friends, and I don't want to see her get hurt. Can you promise me that you won't hurt her?"

He met her stare head on and said, "Of course."

Satisfied, she pulled away and started retrieving her textbooks, unaware of the glances that Valen kept sending her, his heart beating a little quicker in his chest and his curiosity all the more unquenched. He didn't understand how she could act so normal around him—even if she didn't know he was Valentine—because so few actually do. Even Jess regarded him differently, and she didn't know he was Valentine like (Y/N) did.

Honestly, the very fact irritated him.

Not greatly, but just enough.

The way (Y/N) seemed so unaffected by him was what made him decide that he'd make her look at him to prove that she was just like the rest. It was only a matter of time, he knew, before she started wanting more from him. However, even after he revealed the fact that he was famous to her, she didn't tell anyone. Therefore, he chose to get to her through her friend, and who was he to deny the affections of a pining girl?

"Here," Valen hummed as he slid two tickets to his show toward (Y/N). "Take Jess with you. I have a special announcement that night that I think you'll be interested in."

"Oh, really?" She raised a brow, however didn't question it and swiped the ticketsinto her bag quickly before anyone else could see.

"You wouldn't want to miss it."

Before she could say anything more, Mr. Ryder interrupted her thought process by announcing, "Okay, class. To start, I'm going to have you split into groups of three to discuss the reading you did last night. I'm going to give each of the groups a sheet that I want you to fill out and turn in to me by the end of the class period. Read the directions carefully, okay? This is kinda like a quiz—"

Everyone groaned at that.

"—but not in the sense that I'm letting you and your peers help each other. Get to work now."

In an instant, the pounding of feet started up as everyone rushed to make a group with their friends. Valen took that chance to pair up with (Y/N), and while other girls approached to try and join their group to be closer to him, he shot them a withering glare that made them back up and leave just the two of them.

"Guess it's just us, huh?" He smiled, the look then disappearing when Nicolai appeared before them with Mr. Ryder in tow.

"Nicolai here doesn't have a group, but everyone else except you two already have three people," Mr. Ryder said as he set a hand on Nicolai's shoulder in a friendly gesture, the boy somewhat sneering at the unwanted touch. "I'm going to ask that you work with him so he doesn't have to work by himself."

"Of course, Mr. Ryder," (Y/N) nodded in understanding, however her annoyance flaring at the sight of Nicolai.

"Thank you (Y/N), Valen," Mr. Ryder affirmed as he walked back to his desk.

"What is up with all these shitty group projects?" Nicolai grumbled as he collapsed into the pew next to (Y/N), glaring at her all the while. "And why am I always fucking stuck with you, (Y/N)?"

"Well, Nicolai, I don't know—shit just happens," her smile tightened. "Maybe it's God fucking with us. Specifically me, since why the hell would I ever want to be in a group project with you twice?"

"Twice... huh?" Valen perked up at that.

"Yeah, Mrs. Young decided it would be a great idea to pair me up with asshole #1 over here and asshole #2," she muttered as she folded her arms over her chest and sank lower in her chair, ignoring the burning glare that Nicolai was giving her due to her earlier answer to his rhetorical question.

"Who's asshole #2?" Valen questioned, his grip on his pencil tightening.

"Jian Da," she exhaled. "Ever heard of him?"

"Jian... Da?" Valen was surprised by her answer, specifically because he knew the boy in question. "Is that so?"

"Yep, and the only good thing I guess with Jian js that he isn't as insufferable to be around as him," she gestured with her head toward Nicolai. "But since they hate each other, that wasn't pleasant to be around, either. I don't get how they can live in the same house if they act like that all the time."

Valen's brow ticked.

She... even knows they live together?

As Valen's expression continued to darken, something (Y/N) next to him didn't quite catch since she had busied herself with reading the paper's directions, Nicolai unfortunately did. He was used to sensing when someone's gaze was on him—more specifically their bloodlust—and when noticing Valen's glare out of the corner of his eye, his irritation only grew. Especially since he didn't know what he did to earn such a look. Glancing down at (Y/N), then to Valen and meeting his stare, Nicolai's eyes widened when it finally clicked into place what was happening.

With a smirk curling itself over his lips that made him look all the more cruel, he chuckled to himself since he found something he could use to screw Jian Da's life up by using Valen's seemingly affections for (Y/N)—affections that would war against Jian's own interest in her.

Oh, how he would enjoy it.
