Standing outside with the rest of Class 1-A, I can't help but feel a knot of anticipation in my stomach. The air is heavy with excitement and nerves as we prepare for the practical test. I glance toward Aizawa-Sensei, who's leaning against the wall, his usual indifferent expression on his face. The sight of him alone sends a familiar, unwelcome flutter through me. Focus, Mailin, I tell myself, don't let your silly crush get in the way today.

Mina and Denki, standing nearby, are talking animatedly about how they expect the test to involve robots. "It's just like the Entrance Exam, right?" Mina asks, her voice filled with hope.

Aizawa-Sensei steps forward, immediately silencing the class with his presence. "Don't be so sure," he says flatly. His voice, as always, makes my heart skip a beat, and I feel the heat rise in my cheeks. I avert my gaze, biting my lip. Why does he have to affect me like this every time?

Suddenly, Principal Nezu jumps out of Aizawa-Sensei's scarf, delivering the news that the test will not involve robots after all. The words catch me off guard, but what really stings is what comes next.

Nezu explains that we'll be fighting in pairs... against U.A.'s teachers.

I feel a surge of excitement. Could it be? Will I get a chance to face Aizawa-Sensei directly?

But as the pairings are called out, my heart sinks.

"Momo Yaoyorozu and Shoto Todoroki will be facing Aizawa-Sensei."

I swallow hard, my stomach twisting with a strange, unfamiliar feeling. Jealousy? I glance at Momo, my best friend, as she steps forward confidently beside Todoroki. I try to feel happy for her-for both of them-but there's a pang in my chest that I can't shake.

It should've been me. Why didn't I get paired with Aizawa-Sensei? I try to brush it off, but the feeling lingers, heavy and annoying. Instead, I'm paired with Sero, and we'll be facing Midnight.

Sero nudges me lightly with his elbow. "You okay?" he asks, a hint of concern in his voice.

I snap out of my thoughts and force a smile. "Yeah, fine. Midnight should be interesting."

But even as I say it, my eyes dart back toward Aizawa-Sensei. He's speaking to Momo and Todoroki now, giving them instructions with that calm, focused tone of his. My chest tightens again, and I quickly turn away. Get a grip, Mailin. This is your chance to prove yourself, and there's no time for these distracting thoughts. Besides, it's not like Aizawa-Sensei would see me any differently if we were paired together. It's just a crush, nothing more.

Nezu continues explaining the test, and I try to refocus on the task at hand. Midnight is formidable, and her quirk could easily end this fight if we're not careful. Sero's lighthearted nature is reassuring, but I can't shake the tension building inside me.

The buses arrive, and we're transported to the uninhabited city where the test will take place. As we step off, Sero and I head to our assigned area, my mind racing with strategies. Midnight is already waiting, her presence as playful and dangerous as always. I glance back one last time toward Aizawa-Sensei, watching as he leads Momo and Todoroki to their area.

For a split second, I wonder what it would've been like to stand on the battlefield opposite him. Would he have pushed me harder than anyone else? Would he have seen me in a different light if I faced him directly?

But there's no time to dwell. Sero gives me a reassuring grin. "Let's do this, Starforce."

I nod, shaking off the lingering jealousy and uncertainty. "Let's show her what we've got."

The Test: Midnight vs. Mailin and Sero

The buzzer sounds, and Midnight immediately goes on the offensive. Her whip cracks through the air as she steps forward with a smirk. I can already see the faint mist of her quirk spreading, and I take to the air using my telekinesis.
