Mailin’s POV

The sun beats down hard on the baseball field, and the air is buzzing with excitement, though I can’t help but feel a little out of place. Baseball isn't really my thing, but today is different. Quirks are allowed, and it’s not just about playing ball—it's a full-on, chaotic hero battle disguised as a game. Gang Orca is already barking orders at us, and I’m on his team, along with Jirou, Kaminari, and Sero. The Orcas, we’re called. Across the field, the Lionels, led by Shishido, are gearing up. Everyone is pumped, ready to go all out.

I glance up at the stands where Aizawa-sensei is sitting alongside Present Mic. He’s as calm as ever, arms crossed, but I can feel his eyes on me. My heart skips a beat as I quickly look away. It’s impossible to ignore the tension between us. The unspoken feelings, the stolen glances, the way my heart races every time he’s near. And now, as we’re about to play this ridiculous game, all I can think about is whether he’s watching.

“Starforce!” Gang Orca’s voice snaps me back to the present. “You’re up after Jirou. Don’t mess this up.”

I nod, tightening my grip on the bat as I watch the game unfold. It’s chaos, as expected. Sugarman is pitching for the Lionels, and Orca effortlessly knocks it out of the park. But when it’s Kaminari’s turn, Mines throws a curveball that throws him completely off, striking him out. Kaminari stumbles back to the bench, scratching his head in confusion, while Orca glares at him, clearly disappointed.

Jirou steps up next, her earjacks twitching as she focuses on the ball. She swings, her Quirk amplifying the vibrations through the bat, but Shishido catches it just in time. Jirou groans as she jogs back, but Orca actually gives her a nod. "Good effort," he mutters.

Now it’s my turn.

I step up to the plate, my heart pounding as I take my stance. Shishido, the Lionels’ leader, narrows his eyes at me, and I know he won’t go easy. The ball whizzes toward me, and I use my telekinesis to subtly alter its trajectory, sending it flying back toward Sugarman. The ball stretches, rebounds, and smacks him right in the stomach, knocking him out cold.

For a moment, the field is silent. Then, a loud cheer erupts from my teammates, and I can’t help but grin.

“Nice one, Starforce!” Kaminari yells from the sidelines.

I jog back, feeling a surge of pride, but my eyes instinctively flick to the stands again. Aizawa-sensei is watching me, his expression unreadable. My stomach flips at the thought that he’s paying attention. Does he think I did well? Did I impress him?

---

The game presses on, and the chaos only escalates. Players are getting knocked out left and right, and it’s clear that this is less about baseball and more about showing off our quirks. Fat Gum powers up to pitch, absorbing Shishido’s punches and hurling the ball at incredible speed. I barely dodge as the ball soars past me, but I can’t help the rush of adrenaline that follows.

On the field, Red Riot makes a heroic dive to stop a fly ball, while Mt. Lady accidentally knocks out half of our team with her giant form. We’re dropping like flies, and it’s clear that this game is anything but fair. But it’s also fun—more fun than I expected. Even though Gang Orca keeps barking orders and the Lionels are just as competitive, there’s a weird sense of camaraderie on the field.

---

As the game reaches its climax, it’s down to the final inning. I’m back in the outfield, my eyes scanning the Lionels’ lineup. Shishido steps up to bat, and the tension is thick in the air. Gang Orca is the last player left standing on our team, and he’s pitching with everything he’s got. The ball flies toward Shishido, and he swings with all his might, sending it soaring toward the sky.

I stretch out my hand, using my telekinesis to alter the ball’s course, but Shishido is too fast. The ball slams into the bat, sending a powerful shockwave through the air that knocks me back. I catch myself, but the ball is already hurtling toward the outfield.

“Starforce, get it!” Gang Orca roars from the mound.

I leap into the air, pushing my telekinesis to the limit, but before I can reach the ball, Shishido’s bat shatters, sending pieces flying in every direction. One of the shards smacks him in the face, and another slams into Gang Orca, knocking them both out cold.

Present Mic's voice booms over the speakers. "And just like that, both teams are down! This game... is a tie!"

I land on the ground, my chest heaving from exertion, and I glance toward the stands. Aizawa-sensei is standing now, looking at me with an intensity that sends shivers down my spine. The game is over, but the tension between us? That’s far from resolved.

Aizawa’s POV

I watch Mailin push herself on the field, my heart pounding harder than I care to admit. She’s strong, capable, but seeing her in this chaotic game, pushing herself to her limits, makes it hard to focus on anything else.

She catches my eye for a split second, and for a moment, everything else fades. This isn’t just about baseball anymore. I need to keep my distance, maintain the professional boundaries that I’ve worked so hard to uphold, but every time I see her like this—determined, fierce—it becomes harder to ignore the growing tension between us.

“She’s something, huh?” Present Mic grins beside me, his voice pulling me back to reality.

I grunt in response, trying to shake off the feeling. “She’s... doing well.”

Present Mic’s grin widens. “Yeah, well, you better be careful, Eraser. Looks like you’re rooting for her a little too hard.”

I don’t respond, my eyes fixed on Mailin as she walks back to her team, her head held high. She played well, better than most, but there’s something in her expression that tells me she’s not just playing for the win. She’s pushing herself, like always.

And it’s getting harder to watch from the sidelines.
