Mailin’s POV:
Stepping off the plane, I can’t help the thrill rushing through me. I-Island—an entire floating city dedicated to research on Quirks and hero tech. I’m actually here. Next to me, Aizawa-Sensei walks calmly, as composed as always, while I’m trying not to vibrate with excitement. Summer break, and I get to spend it here with him, of all people.
I glance up at him briefly, wondering if he feels the same flutter in his chest. Maybe not—it’s Aizawa, after all—but every now and then, I swear I catch him looking at me, his expression giving nothing away. But still, I wonder if he brought me here because… well, it’s probably just my imagination.
As we pass through immigration, the size and spectacle of the place hit me. Enormous screens flash with signs advertising the I-Expo, the most advanced hero technology on display. It’s only early access, but we get to see it all before the public. I feel like I’m living in some kind of futuristic dream.
“What do you think?” Aizawa’s calm voice pulls me from my thoughts. He’s so close beside me, his hand almost brushing mine as we walk.
“It’s incredible,” I say, trying to keep my voice steady. “I’ve never seen anything like this.”
I want to ask if he’s enjoying himself too, but I hold back. He’s hard to read. As usual, his face betrays nothing, though sometimes… just sometimes, I see a flicker of something when he looks my way.
---
Aizawa’s POV:
I glance at her out of the corner of my eye as we walk through the sprawling I-Expo. It’s hard not to notice the way her eyes light up as she takes everything in. I knew she’d be excited about this place—why else would I have invited her? Still, seeing her like this, so full of energy, makes the trip worth it.
I don’t show it, of course. That would defeat the purpose of being here in a professional capacity. But watching her get lost in the marvel of new gadgets and Quirk technology, I can’t help but feel a faint tug of pride. She belongs here, surrounded by the future of hero work.
“Impressive, isn’t it?” I ask, my voice neutral, but I can tell she knows I’m paying attention.
“It’s amazing,” she replies, her voice softer, almost breathless. She tries to maintain her composure, but I see her nerves.
Before I can respond, we’re interrupted.
“Are you on a date with Aizawa-Sensei?” Ochaco’s teasing voice breaks the quiet between us, and I watch Mailin’s face flush immediately.
---
Mailin’s POV:
I can’t believe they just said that.
“N-no! He’s just showing me around the expo!” I stammer, but the heat rises in my cheeks, betraying me completely. I feel like an open book, and worse, Aizawa doesn’t say a word. He just raises a brow, his calmness making me even more flustered.
Oh god, I must look ridiculous. My face feels like it’s on fire.
Thankfully, the girls move on, but not before sending me a few knowing looks. I let them drag me off to a nearby café, glancing back at Aizawa once. His expression doesn’t change, but I catch a flicker in his eyes before I turn away.
At the café, the rest of Class 1-A is buzzing with excitement. Kaminari’s somehow working here as extra staff, and Ida’s already reminding him about U.A.’s reputation. It’s chaotic, loud, but it’s nice to be with everyone, even if my mind keeps drifting back to Aizawa. I glance around, wondering where he went, and realize I’m on edge. How am I supposed to keep things calm between us with all these people around?
---
Aizawa’s POV:
I watch her leave with her classmates, noting the way she looks back at me. I can tell she’s still flustered from their teasing, but it’s not my place to reassure her, not here, not in front of all these eyes. Letting anyone see how much I care would be… risky.
Instead, I retreat into the crowd, staying close enough to keep an eye on her, but far enough that no one will think much of it. She’s with her friends now, relaxing. It’s better this way.
Still, I can’t help but notice the tension in her shoulders when she glances around. I’ll have to figure out how to make this trip a little easier on her, maybe distract her from the weight of all these expectations. After all, that’s why I brought her here—to give her something outside of the usual stress.

Mailin’s POV:
The day passes in a blur of hero gear, tech displays, and catching up with my classmates. Midoriya, Kirishima, Bakugo, and Todoroki end up in some sort of intense competition, as usual, but my mind’s still on the reception party tonight. What will it be like, standing in a room full of pro heroes and scientists… with Aizawa right there?
It’s hard enough to keep my feelings in check during normal school days, but now? I feel like the entire world will be watching us.
As the sun starts to set, and the party looms closer, I can’t help but wonder… what happens next?
