Mailin’s POV

I sit on the bench, my eyes glued to the screen, watching as Team Yaoyorozu prepares for the second round of the joint training battle. They look confident, but I know that facing Class 1-B is never easy. There’s always a twist waiting. Momo, Fumikage, Yuga, and Toru stand ready as their opponents—Itsuka, Shihai, Kinoko, and Manga—move into position.

It’s strange being on the sidelines, watching everyone strategize and fight, but I know my turn is coming. For now, I study every move they make, trying to pick up on any patterns or techniques I can use in my own match.

As they head to their starting points, the screen focuses on Itsuka chatting with Momo. It’s hard to hear everything from here, but it seems like Itsuka is challenging her. Something about their Hero Agency Internship together and how she wants to see who’s stronger. I can’t help but smile at how easily they talk about their rivalry. Itsuka is competitive but respectful, and I know Momo respects her just as much.

“They’re both so calm,” I mutter to myself, impressed by how collected they are before such an intense battle. Ochaco leans over to nod, agreeing with me.

“They have to be,” she replies. “There’s no room for hesitation in these matches.”

On the screen, Shihai and Fumikage exchange words about their shared affinity for darkness. It’s almost amusing—two shadowy figures, equally at home in the dark, ready to clash. But as Vlad King announces the start of the battle, my amusement fades into tension. This is where things get serious.

Round 2 Battle

Almost immediately, Fumikage sends out Dark Shadow to scout for their opponents, showing off the increased range he developed during his work studies. He’s improved a lot since our earlier training sessions. But just as Dark Shadow locates Class 1-B, it gets hijacked by Shihai, who uses his Black Quirk to merge with the shadow, turning Dark Shadow against Fumikage.

I lean forward, gripping the edge of my seat. “Come on, Fumikage,” I whisper under my breath. Momo tries to help, firing nets at Shihai, but he dodges easily. Fumikage accepts the challenge, and as Shihai continues to evade, Fumikage unveils his new move—Black Fallen Angel.

“He’s flying!” Midoriya exclaims, eyes wide as he watches Fumikage take to the air. Dark Shadow wraps around him, allowing him to soar through the battlefield while keeping the darkness intact under his cloak.

“That’s incredible,” Mina whispers from beside me. I nod in agreement, amazed at how far Fumikage has come. He’s always been powerful, but now, he’s truly mastering his abilities.

Fumikage rescues Yuga, disrupting Shihai’s attempt to drag him away. Together, they counterattack. Momo orders Yuga to fire off his Naval Buffet as Fumikage flies around to warp the shadows and expose Shihai. The plan is working—Shihai is losing his cover in the darkness.

But just as it seems like Class 1-A has the upper hand, a mushroom pops up on Momo’s nose. I frown, confused, until the camera zooms out to reveal the battlefield quickly becoming overrun with mushrooms.

“It’s Kinoko,” I realize, watching as the field becomes more humid and covered in fungi. Kinoko’s Mushroom Quirk has always been tricky to counter, and now, with Manga adding to the humidity using his Comic Quirk, things are only getting worse for Class 1-A.

“Momo needs to think of something fast,” I mutter, knowing how quickly things can spiral in these battles. The camera shifts to Itsuka, who is clearly trying to isolate Momo, cutting her off from the rest of the team.

The screen zooms in on Itsuka’s Big Fist, slamming into Momo’s tungsten shield, crumpling it with ease. I wince, but Momo doesn’t back down. Even under pressure, she stays composed. Shoto, watching beside me, comments quietly, “Momo works best under pressure.”

He’s right. I’ve seen it before.

As expected, Momo pulls off something incredible. She generates a cannon—completely catching Itsuka off guard—and instead of shooting at her, she uses it to launch something over the Katakana wall that Manga created.

“What is she doing?” I ask, leaning forward as the tension builds. Itsuka knocks Momo unconscious, but not before Momo ties herself to the cannon with a rope.

The camera cuts to Fumikage, struggling against Kinoko’s mushrooms and Manga’s Comic Quirk, but then we see it—the object that Momo launched. It’s a Lucky Bag, filled with infrared goggles and fungal spray.

“She thought ahead,” I murmur, admiration swelling in my chest. Even knocked out, Momo’s plan is still in motion.

---

With the goggles, Fumikage and Toru can finally locate Shihai and Kinoko, while Toru uses her invisibility to ambush Manga. Fumikage swoops in, using his Black Abyss: Sabbath to trap Kinoko and Shihai. It looks like they’re about to win, but Kinoko reveals that she’s grown mushrooms in Fumikage’s lungs.

My stomach drops. “That’s brutal.”

Beside me, Izuku looks horrified. “They need to knock her out before it gets worse.”

Meanwhile, Toru is dominating her fight against Manga—her invisibility making it impossible for him to defend himself. Just as she’s about to win, Itsuka appears, grabbing her with her Big Fist and revealing that while she knocked Momo out, she was also tied to the cannon, which made it difficult for her to move.

It’s a bittersweet moment—Itsuka knows she didn’t really win, even though they’ve secured victory for Class 1-B.

Round 2 Aftermath

As Class 1-B brings Momo, Fumikage, Toru, and Yuga to the jail, I can’t help but feel a pang of disappointment. Class 1-B won, 4-0.

“That was a rough one,” Ochaco says, her expression somber. I nod. Momo did everything she could, but in the end, Class 1-B was just too strong this time.

On the screen, Kinoko tells Fumikage to take medicine for the mushrooms, and Itsuka helps Momo as the medic bots take her to the Nurse’s office. Hitoshi and Aizawa-Sensei stand off to the side, observing the damage caused to the arena.

As the teachers announce a break to repair the field, I feel the weight of the match settle in. Class 1-B has proved just how dangerous their teamwork and Quirks are.

But this is just the beginning. There are more matches to come, and we’ll have to be ready.
