A month later
It's 8am in the morning and yesterday I recieved my matric results saying that I passed with a bachelors degree pass, and I am thrilled. I made my family happy, my mom and stepdad slept late waiting for those results. I am grateful for God, giving me the strength and courage to carry on and pass my matric, it wasn't easy and Lord knows it wasn't. I'm grateful for my parents, especially my mom for pushing me to be focused.
My mom, Yvonne Letsatsi, is the most amazing mother ever. I never used to have a good relationship with her and it's still rocky, that's why I'm moving away to go stay with my father. I live with my mom and my stepdad, Frank Letsatsi. My mother has age-defying beauty, she's light skinned with a million dollar smile. She has high standards and expectations, a disciplinarian with a heart of gold. All my friends love her, she has good sense of humour and an amazing character.
"Nala, wake up!" She says in Tswana, I act like I'm asleep and she jumps on me. "You're officially unemployed, how does that feel?" She laughed at me as she walked out of my room. I checked my phone to see missed calls from Kabelo.
The rest of December was amazing. Kabelo and I would speak on the phone for hours, doing nothing honestly. We'd just enjoy each other's company over the phone. I loved being on the phone with him, it felt like we live together. Everything is promising, I really think we're going to be in a relationship this time.
Kabelo🖤
Brat you're awake?
I just woke up now Pookie, good morning💋
You good?
I'm good, how are you?
I'm chilling, what are you doing today? We have to celebrate your win🙃
I have nothing in mind
Come over
Ouuu? Okay😊
Read 8:30I got up as fast as possible to get ready. The smell of bacon and eggs struck my nose and instantly felt my tummy rumble. I put on some music, some Whitney Houston because I was in a "You give good love" kind of mood.
"You're gonna make us late!" My mom gave me the house keys and followed her husband to the car. I quickly put on my sandals and brush my hair. I lock the house and run to the car, I don't want a lecture about how I can't manage my time.
We got to school, my mom and I went to collect my statement and most of the girls I left behind kept running to me. "We're gonna miss you" is what I heard I from most of them besides asking me what I'm going to do with myself from this day forward. I have no clue what I'm doing with my life. A gap year is ideal, I can learn how to drive, get a job and prioritise self care since I didn't have time to do that last year. Truth is, matric is draining, tiring in fact. Not a lot of people emphasis it. After matric, you want nothing to do with school or studying.
"Okay Nals, where are we off to now?" My stepdad asked me and how do I tell my parents my man is coming to get me so we can go chill at his house? "Daddy, I'm going to wait here for my friends so we can go celebrate at a restaurant, Ocean Basket" I say hoping they buy my story. "We can drop you off at Ocean Basket, the one in Wonderboom?" My mom asked me, she insisted to drop me off but I stood my ground.
We stood by the car as I put all my stuff in the car and a new black BMW m2, parked behind us. Clouded by Brent Faiyaz played and instantly knew who it was. I couldn't look at him and show my parents I knew him so I kept looking for nothing in the car as they tried to understand my plans. I took a glance at Kabelo as he got out the car wearing a white shirt and black sweats, he looked so fine. He winked at me and I smiled discreetly so my parents can't notice and he walked towards his best friend, Jay
Kabelo matriculated a year before me, he's a year old than me. Mo's mom pulled up and held conversation with my mom while we walked inside, again, trying so hard not to make eye contact with Kabelo. He just looked so good, his waves were fresh and his smile as he interacted with Jay, he had the perfect smile. He was standing by the gate and it was crowded, there was a bit of a jam as we tried to go in. I passed so close to Kabelo, I could smell his cologne. He grabbed my ass as I passed him, my heart raced and I hoped Mo didn't see that.
I took a quick glance at him before walking away from him. "Mo I have to tell you something" I blurted out. I stopped her from walking and stared into her eyes, searching for the judgement or the frustration I'm going to get from her.
