Saturday

"Good morning Brat" Kabelo said through the phone and not much sound was made from me since I was waking up. I smiled and I thought of how it would be if he was next to me, waking me up from my sleep. He was so gentle, he spoke so gracefully.

"Where are you going?" I asked as I slowly woke up. I noticed how busy he was and it was only 8. "I'm playing ball with Jay and them, I'll be home around 10 or 11." He said and I nodded. "I'll be waiting for you right here! Enjoy your game!" I said and he gulped his water before responding to me. "You can come and be my cheerleader" he smirked and I told him I'll be busy with my chores, cleaning and doing my laundry.

I eventually got up, brushed my teeth and washed my face as quick as possible so I can start cleaning. I walked down the stairs, making my way to the kitchen, my dad was seated on the barstool fixing something. "Good morning daddy" I said he quickly smiled and greeted me. He was in a good mood which was a good thing, maybe I can ask him to go out.

"Daddy, I was wondering, if I could go out and clean the house tomorrow? It's not that dirty"I asked nervously. "Where are you going?" He asked and I was hesitant to answer that. I don't even have friends in Johannesburg so I'd be lying to make up a name. "I'm going to Mall of Africa, I wanna check something out" I answered and he eventually said yes. I could tell he was not with it.

I changed my mind, I want to go cheer for my man, why not? I made my way to my room, thinking about what I will wear. I took out my blue pair of short and my white crop top. "Where are you going" my sister walked in my room without knocking. "Really?" I mean mug her. "You know I don't like it when you don't knock on my door" I felt irritated as I answered her. "I'm going to see Kabelo" I said and she had no reaction, she knows who that is but she just won't entertain it.

Lwandle, is my older sister, we share the same dad and not the same mother. Living with her is challenging in the moment, I think we're just trying to adjust to it, mainly her because I've adjusted but we all know, as a family, Lwandle hates change. She came to ask me when I'll clean the house if not today and I said tomorrow. I put in some Jhene Aiko to listen to while I get ready.

The Uber was here to get me, I called my own Uber because I can't let my dad know where I'm going. I walked out the house feeling excited to see my Pookie. "Hi" I said in Tswana, he was a Zulu man so he answered me in Zulu. "So who are you visiting?" He asked me and I hesitated before telling him, "my man" I said that, in a sassy but mean tone, I didn't want to talk and he chuckled.

"You're those girls that scream 'my man!my man!my man" he said and I laughed. "Did he say he'll marry you? Did he pay Lobola?" He asked me and I laughed. "No because we're still in the early stages" I answered, actually thinking about what he's saying. "Okay, how long have you guys been together?" He asked and I said 3 years and he laughed. "If you were mine I would've been sure I'm going to marry you, we would've even had our first child. Men know who they want to be with the first few times they lay their eyes on you. That means he's not serious"

I can't believe I'm getting advice from an old Zulu man. What he's saying made me think about it. "We have a plan and it's working" I said as we reached the gate. What plan? Is it really working? I sighed as I called him to tell him I'm at the gate, he was so surprised but he was coming to fetch me either way.

"Hey Brat!" He said with a smile before giving me a hug. "You all sweaty and you're hugging me?" I laughed before pushing him away. "And I'll pull you in again!" He said as he pulled me in for a hug. I held his pinky as we walked to the basketball court. We spoke about my day, I told him about the Uber driver and he really didn't saying anything but, "that Uber driver talks too much" with a serious face, it was as if he was thinking about it too.

We got to the court and I was sitting by the benches next to a group of girls who came to support their boyfriends I guess. He came to me and gave me a forehead kiss while he was in the middle of the game and the eye contact was intense, it was giving Love and basketball. The very same girl who stood with Kabelo at school, came out of nowhere and sat next to, what I'm assuming, her friends. Kabelo quickly went to her and held her hands while trying to whisper in her ear but she was too mad to do that. I watched this from a distance, trying to understand why she would be mad to see him with me.

The space between them? Nonexistent, it looked like he was begging her for something, like he got caught. Who is this girl? She was wearing Nike pro's and a baggy shirt on top. She didn't want to look at him, she was upset. It went on for 5 minutes and I took my little bag and walked out.

"Don't be mad, I'm coming back" I heard him say as he followed me. Am I a fool? His fool? Does he think I'm stupid? I asked myself as I tried breathing slowly, releasing my clenched fist and regulating my heartbeat. We're gonna do this the way he wants us to do it.
