Maya clenches her fist as she looks at Akshay, who looks back at her with the most unexpected expression. He looks blank. Maya doesn't know if she was supposed to feel happy that he didn't show any signs of doubt or unhappy that he didn't show trust. Still, Maya told herself that it was understandable. It was understandable that he couldn't possibly draw any conclusions because neither was their relationship so weak that it could break under a mare rumour nor was it strong enough to stand steadfast over something like this, but knowing that there could be even an ounce of chance that Akshay doesn't trust her makes Maya feel lost. Maya knows that none of it changes what she feels, what she knows. She confidently takes a step forward, looking into the eyes of the woman who is still standing with her phone up in the air, displaying what she thinks is an indecent photo of a secret rendezvous. Maya was about to prove her wrong.

"And what exactly does this photo mean, in your perspective, mam?" Maya questions, slightly squinting her eyes at the woman.

"Not that it means something. I am sure a daughter of the Rajvansh family would not cross any limits, especially one who's engaged, but is it not inappropriate for an engaged woman to spend a night out alone with another man?" Maya grits her teeth at the woman's implication. For a woman who's trying hard not to seem pointy, she is pointing quite a few fingers.

"Indeed. What's inappropriate is me spending the night with a man who I share feelings with while being engaged to another man, but you see, the man I have agreed to marry is the man I share feelings with and the man I had dinner with is someone I have no feelings for, someone who is never a threat to my partner." Maya states firmly, her voice booming loud and clear to the crowd and Akshay. She walks to Akshay and looks into his eyes. Ranav bites down his teeth as his heart cracks with every word Maya just said, breaking silently under the weight of his reality.

"Nothing will change the fact that I already chose the man for me and he is right in front of me. Whereas the person you are so hardly trying to interlink with me is a good friend of mine. Just a friend of mine." Ranav stood frozen, a spectator to his own heartbreak, every beat of his heart resonating with the realization that he lost her. Blood rushed into his ears as he felt his heart crush with the pressure building in his conscience. He is no one to her. He knew that before, but somehow, listening to her now broke a part of him he didn't realise existed. He just had no idea he liked her so much. So much that just a word of disregard from her could drench him in sadness. So much that just a gesture could puncture his faith. So much so that even though she was not looking at him, he could feel her sharp, confident gaze shooting at him.

He was in Love, he realised. So in love that he felt possessed, he felt exposed to the fire that was her proximity and he enjoyed the sweet burn way more than he should. What kind of a person would desire a woman who's taken, Ranav? Ranav criticized himself, reminding himself of his vain hope and scolding himself for still being hopeful. Loving someone who will never look back at you hurts like hell. Ranav now knows how painful it is exactly.

"This photo can neither question the relationship I have with Akshay nor taint the friendship I have with Ranav." Maya looks back at him with a gaze full of faith, asking for support without voicing her thoughts. "Right, Ranav?" It took what felt like an effort that would take a man to move mountains for him to get his head to nod, but he managed to do so for her. She doesn't need to be burdened by his unspoken confessions, he told himself.

Maya turns around to shoot daggers at the woman. Ranav blinks back the tears that seem to fill his eyes as he turns around taking a deep breath to push back the feelings threatening to burst out. Her every word sliced through the fragile hope he had clung to. He could feel the knot in his throat tighten as breathing became difficult. The air around him seems to choke him, leaving him suffocating and unable to keep composure. Why does it feel like he was on fire? He turned around stepping away, not wanting to let his guard down or gather any more attention to himself. He wiped at his eyes as he took every step towards the door with his broken will. He steps into the garden behind the house, pacing back and forth as he furiously wipes at his tears, tending to his broken heart as every moment he ever shared with her overshadowed his pain, enhancing the suffocation tenfold. If it weren't for the fact that she loves someone else, Ranav would beg to be with her, but he wouldn't do that to her knowing how uncomfortable it would make her. He could put all his pride, ego and heart at her feet but would that grant him her companionship? She loves someone else, so would his love even matter? Will you ever notice my love?
