"Oh good you're home! Come sit," Mam ushered me over to the kitchen island right when I stepped in the door.
My gaze fell on Johnny who was already sitting at it, and then my dad who was standing behind the island.
"Hi da," I smiled, coming over to give him a hug.
"Hi Ads," He returned the hug before I sank onto the stool next to Johnny.
"What's going on?" I whispered to Johnny.
"I have no idea. They sat me down here when I got home," He replied.
Feeling anxiety and concern bubble in my stomach, I turned to my parents and asked, "What's going on? Why are we having a meeting?"
"Well, love," Mam smiled, pushing a plate of food towards me, "I made dinner and we also wanted to talk to the both of you."
"About what?" Johnny asked, shoving a forkful of roast into his mouth.
My stomach growled at the sight of the food, but it was too many calories to be in my meal plan. Knowing my mam was watching me, I stabbed a steamed carrot with my fork and popped it into my mouth.
"As you know, Declan's off at boarding school," Mam sighed.
Declan being my twin brother. He'd left in August to go to a boarding school in Dublin for hurling. Like Johnny, Declan was extremely athletic and talented. He had begged my parents to let him go away for school. My mam was uneasy about it because she 'wanted all her babies under one roof' but he managed to convince her.
"Is he okay?" Johnny and I asked in unison.
"Yes, no need to worry. It's just that..." Mam paused and my dad wrapped an arm around her.
"Your brother's been expelled from Finerty Prep," Dad sighed, "He was involved in a fight and is on his way home now."
"What?!" I gaped, "You're kidding."
"No, pet, we aren't. I'm sure he will tell you more about the story when he gets in tonight," Mam frowned.
I was both excited and scared to see my twin brother. I missed him like crazy considering I hadn't seen him in nearly six months but I also knew he'd be able to tell something was seriously wrong with me. We were cursed with the whole twin telepathy thing.
"Dec seriously got expelled?" Johnny gasped, "Jaysus, the lad must be furious."
"He is," Mam nodded, "We've already contacted Mr. Twomey to enrol Declan back in Tommen."
"Poor Dec," I frowned, "He's going to be so mad at himself."
I knew my brother better than anyone. While he would obviously be furious at the expulsion, I knew he'd also be devastated with himself. I was sure whatever the fight was about was for a valid reason.
"Don't worry, Adeline," Dad looked to me, "He'll be alright, dear."
"This is crazy," I sighed, grabbing my phone from my pocket, "I've got to text Grace."
