゚:* ✶ Gibsie ✶ ゚:*"Part of me wants you back but I know it won't work like that"
April 31, 2005
Today was court day, well Addy's court day. I wasn't invited. I knew her family was going, and I figured Grace would be there. So, there was no harm in going myself.
I wanted to be there for her. I had to be there for her. We weren't on speaking terms, but I'd put that all aside for this.
I was dressed in my best 'court' attire, a light blue button up shirt, black slacks and some stupid pair of dress shoes.
I'd made my mam drop me off, and I was now stood outside the court house, with my heart beating wildly in my chest. Every thud was like a cry for freedom. I wanted to be free from Addy, from my childhood, I just wanted to be free.
I was proud of her. She'd done what I couldn't—told, asked for help, and gone to court.
I slipped into the building, keeping my head down. My shoes clicked against the tile floor, each step piercing through the air like gunshots alerting the world of my presence.
I peered around the corner, attempting to not be seen. I spotted Johnny, his face a shield, hiding the fury of emotions I knew he was experiencing. He slipped into the room at the far end of the hall, with his parents on either side of him.
The hall was now vacant, giving me the perfect opportunity to make a break for the door. Glancing over my shoulder, I sped walk to the door. My hand was resting on the handle when a voice made me stop in my tracks.
"Gerard Gibson, that better not be you!" A feminine voice shouted.
I turned around, to meet the eyes of Grace with a surprised looking Declan standing beside her.
"Oh, hello." I hummed, playing dumb. "Funny seeing you two here."
"Don't do that," Grace shook her head. She stepped towards me, "you have to leave."
"Why?"
"Because, Gibsie, she doesn't want you here," Grace sighed, her voice softening slightly. "I know you mean well, but this isn't your choice."
"You expect me to leave?" I widened my eyes. "I'm not going anywhere, Grace. She's my... it's Addy."
"Listen, lad," Declan muttered. "I feel for you, I know you love her, and you want to be here for her." He nodded sympathetically. "But she doesn't want that, she doesn't need that."
"No, you guys are just saying that! I know her, and I know she'd want me in there." I demanded, my voice raising, "stop trying to make me leave."
"Do I look like I'm joking around?" Grace narrowed her eyes at me. "I'm being serious right now. I'm not against kicking your ass if you don't get the hell out of here."
"I'm not leaving."
"Jesus Christ, Gibs." Grace groaned, crossing her arms, "I'm two seconds from slapping you across the face."
