Adeline was avoiding me. She could act like she wasn't, but I knew she was. All of my texts and calls had gone unanswered and when I was over at the Kavanagh's she would lock herself in her bedroom and refuse to answer the door. I knew it was because of that stupid argument we had a couple days ago.
And that's why it was so annoying.
Because the argument was pointless. Maybe I fucked up by not kissing her but it didn't feel right doing it. It was like she was trying to distract me or herself from something.
Even now, while I was sitting in the kitchen of the manor, she was up hiding in her room. We were celebrating a rugby win so most of the team was over plus Gracelyn who was in the kitchen with me.
"Did she say why she's mad at me?" I asked Grace, who was sipping on a smirnoff ice.
"Jesus Christ, Gibs, I told you she hasn't mentioned it," Grace sighed.
"Nothing at all? Not even that she's mad?"
"Nothing, Gibs. She's been all quiet and standoffish the past few days," Grace shrugged.
Fuck.
I really needed to find out what was going on in that beautiful head of hers. It was obviously something serious and it had to do with Hughie's party. That night was foggy—due to the amount of alcohol I consumed—but I vaguely remember her leaving early.
"Has she mentioned Hugh's party to you?" I asked, trying to be nonchalant.
Grace cocked an eyebrow and replied, "No. Why? Did something happen?"
"Uh, I don't know," I shrugged, "Just a thought."
"She has been weird since then," Grace pointed out, "It's like someone replaced Addy with a lifeless version."
"Yeah," I frowned, "Have you talked to her today?"
"Yes," Grace nodded, "I was in her room earlier. She told me to come down without her."
"Do you think I should go up and talk to her?"
Grace laughed and shook her head, "Absolutely not. If she wants to talk she'll come to you."
She tried.
She tried to fucking tell me and Johnny ruined it.
"Guys, come on Steph is making a toast," Johnny popped his head into the kitchen.
"Coming, Cap," I nodded, hopping off the bar stool, "You coming?"
"Nah," Grace replied, "I'm good in here."
"Knock yourself out. This lad is going to get wasted," I winked and pointed to myself, walking out of the kitchen and into the sitting room.
"And a big thanks to Cap, who we couldn't have won without," Stephan was standing on the coffee table, holding up the medal that was around his neck.
"Yeah, Cap," I cheered, pulling Johnny into a bear hug, "I could kiss you right now!"
"You best not, ya eejit," Johnny scoffed.
"Thanks for having us over, Cap," Stephan smiled, jumping down from the table.
"Gibs convinced me," Johnny glared at me and I gave him a cheeky smile.
I trudged over to the couch and plopped down beside Hughie who was in deep conversation with Declan.
"Lad, you should've seen the pitch at Finerty," Declan bragged, "That shite was next level."
"Do you have a picture?" Hughie offered.
"Hmmm," Declan pondered it before he nodded, "Addy does, when she came out to visit she got someone to take a picture of us together while we were on it" Jumping to his feet he added, "Let me go ask her for the picture."
Declan jogged out of the room and up the stairs, so I scooted closer to Hughie.
"I've gone and fucked it up with Addy," I groaned, "She's realized I'm a tool."
"Took her long enough," Hugh snickered, "What happened?"
"I fucked up," I sighed.
"I'm not surprised," Hughie shrugged, "But come on, lad, I'm sure the girl will forgive you for whatever you did."
"I really fucking hope so, Hugh. Because I love her so much I can't stomach losing her."
"Shit," He gaped, "I never knew it was that serious for you."
It is.
It's so serious, I can't function without her.
It had only been two days with no Addy and I was losing it. The girl had me in a chokehold, and that would never change.
I just really hoped we could get things back on track.
And most of all, I hoped I could get her secret out of her.
Because it was tearing us apart.
