:* Gibsie :*

March 28, 2005

After Johnny had made a complete and utter fool of himself in front of the entire family, Adeline and I headed off in the direction of the cafeteria. Gracelyn—who looked completely flustered—was trailing after us, yapping on to Declan.

"When Johnny gets off anesthesia, I'm going to kick his arse," Adeline crossed her arms over her chest.

"Can you kick my ass? Just for the fun of it?" I purred, slinging my arm around her shoulders.

"I'm serious, Gerard! Johnny has no business getting in Grace's head, especially now that she's happy," She huffed, grabbing my hand that was around her shoulders and giving it a squeeze.

"I think he loves her, Ads," I offered with a shrug.

I was pretty much positive Johnny had always had a soft spot for Gracelyn—one that he did a very good job of hiding—and the anesthesia made it obvious.

"Well, she's with Theo," Addy sighed.

"Oh my god," I heard Grace groan from behind us, "Remind me to never listen to your advice again." She was rolling her eyes at Declan—who looked thoroughly amused.

"Then stop asking for it," He shrugged, pushing past all of us to grab a bottle of water from the cooler near the buffet line.

I also pushed past him—accidentally knocking him off balance—as I was eager to eat something.

"Pushing me over to get food is crazy," Declan scoffed.

"Deccy, don't be a dick. Gibsie's just a fat ass," Grace chuckled, standing in front of the cooler with Addy.

"I'm not fat, I'm big boned," I rolled my eyes, scanning the food options.

"That's exactly what a fatty would say," Grace snickered, retrieving a can of diet coke from the cooler and handing a water to Addy.

"Grace, be nice," Addy laughed.

"Yikes, that's hard for me," She sighed, yanking a pack of crisps out of Declan's hands, "These are the ones I wanted."

Declan let out a frustrated breath but let her have them.

I grabbed a tray and looked to where the cafeteria worker was standing. She was girl probably around my age with brown hair and green eyes.

Cute but not Addy.

Yet I still found myself slapping on a flirty smile and saying, "Well, hello."

It was like I was purposely trying to sabotage my relationship with Adeline. I wanted to save her from me.

"Hi, how can I help you?" The girl smiled.

"Are you up for grabs?" I teased, feeling both Addy and Graces eyes burning holes in my head.

"Oh, stop," The girl blushed, "What can I grab you?"

"Some of the pie," I pointed to it, "Please and thank you, and maybe you."

"I can definitely get you the pie," She looked over her shoulder, "And maybe my number."

Before I could reply, Grace appeared next to me and glared at the girl, "Just the pie is fine. He's unavailable and I won't hesitate to jump over the counter and strangle you."

The girls face paled and she hurried to get me the pie.

Once we had paid and we all took a seat at a table, I looked to Addy who was stabbing at a premade salad.

"Want a bite of my pie, babe?" I nudged her foot with mine.

"No," She refused to look at me, "But I'll bet the cafeteria girl does."

Yeah, I'm in trouble.

"Come on, Ballerina, don't be mad."

"Then don't be a fucking eejit."

"It's in my nature. I can't help it."

"Then I'll keep being mad, thank you very much."

"Addy, come on," I whined.

"Fuck off, Gibsie," Grace hissed, "She's obviously going to be mad when you flirt with some random girl in front of her."

"Yeah, lad, not your best move," Declan shook his head, sneaking a crisp from Grace.

"It doesn't mean anything! I was only messing," I threw my hands up in defence.

"Just like it doesn't mean anything when you do it to me! You're always messing," Addy sniffled, throwing her chair back and practically sprinting out of the cafeteria.

"Addy, wait," Grace threw her can down on table, and then glared at me, "I'll be back for you, Gibsie. Watch your back."

With both the girls gone, Declan just looked at me and shook his head.

"I don't want to hear it from you too," I groaned, kicking myself for being such a fucking moron.

"You won't," Declan shrugged, "But just know, I'm not against kicking your arse for Addy."

"You won't have to. I love your sister."

"Could've fooled me, ya eejit," He sighed.

"It's true," I frowned, "I really do love her. I just can't help but fuck up."

"What kind of analogy is that?" He snorted, "If you love her, man up and tell her that."

"Yeah, you're right," I nodded, "I'm a moron."

"You said it," He laughed.

Declan was in fact right. If I kept fucking around with Addy's feelings she'd eventually have enough of it.

I just felt like she deserved so much better than me. I wanted to let her go but a part of me couldn't. She was everything good in the world and I selfishly wanted that all to myself.

So, I stood up and headed towards the toilets—where I knew Addy would be—and waited for her.

Because I couldn't let her go.

I'd just have to give in and give her my heart.

It was inevitable at this point.
