Xu Zhen couldn't be bothered with the Baihong students; she focused on continuing her lecture. Opening the booklet of imperial examination questions, she began explaining the content of Confucian and historical studies. After covering a few questions, it was time for the midday break.
A few Baihong Academy students gathered to chat.
"This autumn exam, I believe Wang Jia Erlang is sure to top the list."
"His literary talents are excellent, and he's well-versed in Confucian classics. He won't disappoint."
"You all will surely pass as well. I didn't realize how good Baihong's education was until coming to Qinglong Mountain."
Hearing this, the original students of Class Wu(E) felt uneasy. Though young, since the Daqing Dynasty had changed the autumn exams to an annual event open to anyone aged five and above, these students had taken several exams before.
However, the imperial exams were extremely challenging. Competing against three thousand students from the Imperial Academy and private academies, along with seasoned elders, their private schooling offered no advantage. These students were already anxious about the upcoming exam, and hearing the Baihong students' boasts only deepened their despair.
Xu Zhen overheard them. She had thought the previous fighter was an extreme case, but it seemed all these students were the same. No wonder the little beggar didn't like them.
With the autumn exams approaching, the best she could do was offer some predictions. Preparing for the classics was too late. As for predictions, she wasn't familiar with the examination topics of this dynasty and didn't know if her guesses would be accurate.
Feeling concerned, Xu Zhen decided to set aside her worries for the moment and was about to find the little beggar to go out for lunch when Ge Xier suddenly approached.
Xu Zhen had a favorable impression of this inquisitive student. Seeing her calm demeanor, Xu Zhen asked, "What's up?"
Ge Xier openly said, "Teacher, I want to ask about this year's autumn exams."
Upon hearing the mention of exams, the surrounding students perked up, casting aside their previous gloom to listen intently.
Xu Zhen immediately realized this was akin to pre-exam counseling. She sat back down, offered Ge Xier a cushion, and asked, "What would you like to know?"
Ge Xier replied, "When you spoke about the path to becoming an official, it seemed like we all had the potential to succeed. But our knowledge is average, and our martial skills are ordinary. Why do you believe in us?"
The Baihong students scoffed, saying, "Your teacher is just comforting you, isn't it obvious?"
Ignoring them, Ge Xier continued, "You also thought Cao Mengde was a good person. Your insights are always unique. So, before the autumn exam, I wanted to ask what you saw in us that led you to say that?"
As Ge Xier finished speaking, many students perked up to listen. They hadn't thought much of Xu Zhen before, suspecting her recent recognition was mere luck. However, Ge Xier was the top student in her class and came from a well-off family. If she believed in the teacher, then Xu Zhen must indeed be remarkable.
