Warm drafts filled the tent, casting a gentle glow on the weapons that gleamed with a silver light. Soft, furry garments were piled at the foot of the bed. With Xun Qianchun's growing reputation, she lacked nothing, even having access to the most precious medicines.

Xun Qianchun gently parted Xu Zhen's clothing to clean her body and apply ointment, her hands trembling slightly. Xu Zhen misunderstood, thinking Xun Qianchun was overcome with sadness, and reached up to gently pat her head.

Xun Qianchun looked up at Xu Zhen, a mix of pain and joy flickering in her eyes, which she quickly suppressed. Kneeling beside the dim candlelight, she watched Xu Zhen tenderly.

The earlier whip strike had been harsh and swift, leaving a bleeding mark on Xu Zhen's back. When Xun Qianchun saw the wound, a surge of rage filled her, and she felt an overwhelming urge to rush out and confront those responsible. But as she met Xu Zhen's concerned gaze, she realized that misplacing her anger would solve nothing.

The fault lay with her. She had failed to find her teacher in time—

Xun Qianchun took a deep breath, closing her eyes to calm herself. Then, with steady hands, she resumed applying the medicine with her cool fingers.

Xu Zhen lay languidly on the bed, her tattered clothes revealing her slender legs covered in scars. As Xun Qianchun applied ointment to her ankle, she couldn't resist leaning in for a kiss. Xu Zhen pulled the blanket over herself, playfully blocking her.

Xun Qianchun removed her outer garments and slipped under the covers, embracing Xu Zhen and gently kissing her lips. Xu Zhen, still feverish and gravely injured, found it difficult to resist the young North Frontier King's affection. She tried to push the little beggar away several times, breathless, but her efforts were in vain.

After a few playful nibbles, Xun Qianchun switched to gentle, slow licks. Eventually, Xu Zhen managed to find an opportunity to push her away.

They lay together on the spacious bed, a special privilege for the North Frontier King, adorned with furs and scattered with flowers. Xu Zhen, breathing heavily, leaned against the little beggar, sensing the growth and maturity of the past two years through their thin nightclothes.

Xu Zhen had many questions and complaints swirling in her mind, but suddenly she didn't know where to begin.

Xun Qianchun leaned in to kiss her again, like a puppy seeking affection. Amused by her own thoughts, Xu Zhen laughed and teased, "Why do you act like you haven’t eaten in days?"

In truth, Xun Qianchun hadn't eaten much lately; her appetite had vanished. Her expression remained indifferent, though her deep blue eyes held unfathomable emotions. After a brief pause, Xu Zhen heard her softly say, "I missed you."

Xu Zhen's cheeks flushed slightly as she said, "I missed you too. Why didn't you come to find me? Was I hard to find?"

Xun Qianchun nodded in response. Xu Zhen continued, "I was waiting for you to come to me."

Xun Qianchun's eyes reddened once more, and she gripped Xu Zhen's hand tightly until her knuckles turned white, silently thinking, I must keep trying.

As night fell, snow pounded against the tent, creating a loud noise. Xu Zhen, realizing she was being too sentimental, quickly added, "But with the chaos in the world, it was impossible to find you, just as you couldn't find me."

Xun Qianchun didn't share this sentiment. She remained silent, holding Xu Zhen tightly.

Beside them, the lamp wick sputtered and crackled softly. Feeling shy, Xu Zhen shifted closer, resting her head on Xun Qianchun's chest. She could hear the urgent thumping of Xun Qianchun's heart, like a persistent knocking at the door. Despite the thin layer of clothing between them, they felt closer than ever.
