Xu Zhen was used to doing good deeds. Chatting with Li Sanlang felt normal to her. But when she got home and saw Little Beggar sweetly rinsing rice and reaching for millet, it hit her—why was she still doing charity when she already had Little Beggar to care for?

And after all that talk, the kid didn't even believe her!

What was she doing, playing philanthropist?

Frustrated, Xu Zhen flipped through "Mencius" and came across a line that seemed to sum up her life: "Therefore, when Heaven is about to bestow a great responsibility on a person, it first tests their resolve."

She thought the hardships she was enduring now would eventually pay off in merit points.

With this in mind, she went to sleep in a good mood.

The next day, she checked her merit points as usual and found they had increased by thirty!

Xu Zhen was startled.

Thirty points? That was huge!

Usually, it would take her sticking close to Little Beggar for half a month to earn that!

She had expected maybe four or five points for helping Li Sanlang, but thirty?

Could she have done something good without realizing it?

As Xu Zhen tried to remember what she might have done, the stowaway interface flickered.

Both the mainline and store interfaces glowed with gold.

Xu Zhen clicked into the mainline first.

The mainline task progress was still at (2/10), but there was a new unread message below.

This was the first time she had seen an unread message since getting the system, so she quickly opened it.

With a ding, a white card popped out of the envelope.

It was about the size of a trading card, with a gold border, divided into two sections, covered in white light.

Xu Zhen poked the card, and the white light faded, revealing the content.

The top half showed a portrait—it was Li Sanlang.

The bottom half had a few lines: [Villain Number One: Li Sanlang]

Description:
[Uneducated and stubborn, leading to his father and brother's plan failing, resulting in their deaths, disgrace, and the decline of the Li family. Seeking revenge, Li Sanlang committed many evils, ultimately dying in despair at the frontier.]
[Villain Index: Three stars. (Reformed)]

... Deaths, disgrace?

Li Sanlang's mention of the bird and branch was indeed a military strategy.

Thankfully, she had given him a hint.

The "reformed" meant she had enlightened Li Sanlang.

If Li Sanlang avoided mischief, his father and brother's lives would be saved.

No wonder she earned thirty points today.
