The fierce wind howled, lightning flashed, and thunder roared as torrential rain poured down. When Xu Zhen awoke, she found her hands bound, the jolting of a carriage beneath her. She opened her eyes to see the dark sky and the rain-soaked earth outside, realizing they must have left Pingliang by now.

Inside the carriage sat the same female strategist who had previously pulled Xu Zhen down from the tower. She sat by the window, swinging her legs, and smiled when she saw Xu Zhen awake.

Despite this being not her first time being kidnapped,  Xu Zhen remained calm. She attempted to sit up but, realizing she couldn't, continued lying down and turned her head slightly to ask, "Why did you capture me?"

The strategist, unreservedly, replied with a smile, "I've heard you're a clever person, so my master wishes to meet you. I also wanted to have a chat with you."

Rain pattered heavily against the carriage curtains, and the journey was rough, with the carriage swaying as it hit stones along the road. Though the roof was covered with oil paper, some water still leaked through, dripping onto Xu Zhen's head and trickling down her clothes.

Suppressing her discomfort, Xu Zhen asked, "Who is your master?"

The strategist replied, "Even if I told you, you wouldn't recognize them. But I can say they are someone from Chang'an."

The master in Chang'an—who could it be? Only someone with significant influence could remain there nowadays.

Xu Zhen speculated, "Is it the favored concubine who charms the court?"

"Charms the court?" The strategist laughed heartily, slapping her leg.

Outside, the rain continued to pour relentlessly, battering the dirt road, while the wheels struggled to roll forward. The strategist's laughter gradually subsided.

Xu Zhen maintained her composure, not overly worried about her situation, hoping to glean more information from the strategist. Just as she was about to ask another question, the horses outside suddenly neighed in panic. The carriage abruptly lifted into the air, tossing both women inside before crashing down heavily.

The coachman outside screamed in agony. The strategist frowned and shouted, "What happened?!"

After a moment, the coachman pulled back the curtain and yelled, "The horse just stumbled! There are unfamiliar soldiers ahead!"

The strategist, with urgency, commanded, "Tell them to make way; don't they know who we are?!"

The coachman acknowledged and seemed to move forward to negotiate, but soon, the chaotic sounds of combat erupted in the rain. The coachman hurried back, shouting, "Two unfamiliar armies are fighting!!!"

In such chaotic times, turmoil was to be expected. The strategist stepped up to the carriage door, pulling back the curtain and shouted, "Then what are you waiting for? Go around them!"

The coachman quickly gathered the reins. Unexpectedly, stray arrows flew toward them, one embedding itself in the edge of the carriage, terrifying the coachman, who hastily tried to drive away.

Amidst the chaos, Xu Zhen seized the opportunity to free herself from the ropes. With determination, she burst open the carriage door and, after running a few steps, made a daring leap off the cliff.

With a whoosh, she vanished from sight.

The world was vast, with the wind and rain howling, as weapons clashed in the distance. The strategist and the coachman, one holding the carriage window and the other kneeling with mouth agape, were both left in shock.
