The two of them rested in the cave.
When Xu Zhen was awakened by the sound of rain, she felt her clothes and suddenly realized that at some point, she had changed into a clean dress.
It must have been Xun Qianchun who helped her change; could it be that the clothes were stolen again?
She looked around for Xun Qianchun.
Spotting a shadow, she moved closer.
In the rainy night, Xun Qianchun, with her martial arts skills, always had a slightly higher body temperature than ordinary people, making her feel like a warm furnace. Xu Zhen cuddled up to her, comfortably burrowing into Xun Qianchun’s embrace and falling back asleep.
The torrential rain continued, and after an unknown amount of time, faint light finally began to filter through the clouds, slowly illuminating the ground.
Xu Zhen opened her eyes to see the scene outside the cave. She noticed the collapsed trees and the ground covered in fallen leaves, which reminded her of the citizens in Chang’an who were still not safe!
She hurriedly ran outside.
Once on her feet, the pain from the ankle she had twisted yesterday hit her hard, but she pushed through, striving to keep moving.
At the entrance, she spotted a raincoat and wanted to grab it and put it on.
Just as she bent down to pick it up, a warm arm wrapped around her, pulling her into a hot embrace.
Startled, Xu Zhen looked up to see a familiar yet unfamiliar face. The person holding her was tall and slender, with black hair cascading to the sides of their face, fair skin, a delicate nose, slightly sunken cheeks, and eyes as deep as the sea — truly beautiful.
Xu Zhen stared for a moment, then cautiously asked, “Xu Qianchun?”
Xun Qianchun nodded calmly.
Xu Zhen was slightly taken aback, saying, “You… how come you’re even taller than I imagined???”
Xun Qianchun looked back at her.
Xu Zhen stared at her, her eyes filled with disbelief.
After a moment, Xu Qianchun let out a soft laugh, saying, “I've grown a bit taller in the last few days.”
Xu Zhen blinked, accepting the explanation with a dazed expression.
Xun Qianchun then carried Xu Zhen toward the pile of straw inside the cave. Gently, she dropped to one knee and reached inside to pull out a water bottle, handing it to Xu Zhen.
Xu Zhen took a sip, suddenly remembering her mission to save the nation and its people. She quickly pushed herself off Xun Qianchun's shoulder, declaring, “I need to return to the city!”
Xun Qianchun shook her head. “The rain is heavy.”
Xu Zhen shoved the water bottle back into Xun Qianchun's arms, insisting, “I’ll just take a look from the mountaintop. If everyone is safe, I’ll come back. You wait for me here!”
With that, she sprang up, ready to leave.
Xu Qianchun grabbed Xu Zhen’s hand again; the warmth of her palm felt like fire, igniting a burning sensation that traveled up Xu Zhen’s arm.
Xu Zhen grew anxious. “Let go! I’ll be right back. Just wait for me here!”
Xun Qianchun fixed her gaze on Xu Zhen, not saying a word.
Xu Zhen continued, “I really want to see what’s happening.”
Xun Qianchun frowned, saying, “I’ll take you.”
