As we boarded the flight to Austin for the race, I felt a familiar thrill of excitement coursing through me. The atmosphere in the cabin buzzed with energy, filled with his team and our friends eagerly anticipating the upcoming Grand Prix. I settled into my seat beside Charles, who was already scrolling through his phone, likely checking updates and messages.
"You excited?" I asked, playfully nudging his arm. He looked up, a smile breaking across his face.
"Yeah, Austin's always a fun race, especially with the atmosphere they have there. Plus, the fans are incredible." I nodded, recalling the vibrant energy of the Texas crowd from previous years.
"I can't wait to see everyone again! The city is so lively, and the food—"
"Don't get too distracted by the food!" he teased, his eyes twinkling with amusement. "I need you focused on cheering for me, not on all the tacos and BBQ!" I laughed, rolling my eyes.
"Alright, I'll try to keep my priorities straight. But you have to promise me we'll find some good places to eat after the race!"
"Deal," he said, and we both leaned back in our seats, ready for the flight. As the plane lifted off, a sense of adventure washed over me. During the flight, we spent the time discussing our favourite moments from previous races and our plans for the weekend. I loved hearing Charles share stories about his experiences on and off the track, how the adrenaline of racing mixed with the thrill of connecting with fans and the support of his team. Before long, we landed in Austin, greeted by bright sunshine and a warm breeze as we stepped off the plane. The excitement in the air, and I felt my heart race as we made our way to the hotel.
After settling into our room, we headed out to explore the city. A surge of happiness filled me as we strolled through the streets, the vibrant atmosphere of Austin enveloping us. Street performers played music, food trucks lined the sidewalks, and the enticing smell of barbecue wafted through the air.
"Let's grab some food!" Charles suggested, pointing to a bustling food truck selling tacos. I couldn't resist the temptation, and we joined the line, chatting about everything and nothing as we waited. With tacos in hand, we found a nearby park to sit and enjoy our meal. As I bit into the delicious food, I savoured the flavours and the moment. Charles watched me with amusement, a smile tugging at his lips as I animatedly described how good the tacos were.
"See? I told you the food would be a highlight," I teased.
"Okay, you win this round," he laughed. Later, we returned to the hotel to prepare for the busy race weekend ahead. I helped Charles unpack and organise everything, feeling the buzz of anticipation in the air. The next day would be filled with meetings, interviews, and the energy of race day. As we settled into bed, I turned to Charles, who was scrolling through messages on his phone.
"You ready for tomorrow?" I asked softly.
"Yeah, I think so," he replied, finally putting his phone down and meeting my gaze. "It's always a mix of nerves and excitement, but having you here helps."
"I'm glad," I said, reaching for his hand and giving it a reassuring squeeze. "You've got this. Just remember to enjoy it." Charles smiled, his expression more relaxed now.
"With you cheering me on, how could I not?" As we drifted off to sleep, a surge of happiness filled me.The morning of race day dawned bright and early, with the sun streaming through the hotel window and the distant sounds of Austin coming to life. Charles had qualified well and we were both feeling confident about today. I woke up to the smell of coffee brewing from a cafe below, a scent that wrapped around me like a comforting blanket. I glanced over at Charles, still asleep, his features relaxed and peaceful. After slipping out of bed, I quietly put on a comfortable outfit, jeans and a fitted T-shirt emblazoned with the Ferrari logo. I made my way to the cafe to grab a cup of coffee, taking a moment to appreciate the city's vibrant energy which too began to awaken. When I returned to the hotel room, Charles was awake, running a hand through his tousled hair and smiling sleepily at me.
"Good morning," he said, his voice husky from sleep. "Did you sneak out without me?"
"I couldn't resist the coffee! It smells amazing," I replied, handing him a steaming cup.
"Thanks," he said, taking a sip. "I needed this." He looked at me, the warmth of his gaze making my heart flutter. "You look great, by the way. Ready to cheer for your boyfriend today?" I grinned.
"Yeah I can't wait to cheer on Pierre today. I wouldn't miss it for the world." I teased with a mischievous smile.
