ODDS OF LOVE : SEASON 15

Episode 18

Paul Paterson rubbed his eyes as he sat back in his chair behind his desk. Too much staring at a computer screen always had his eyes feeling so gritty. Like they had sand in them. And , these new cases he had been assigned was working on his every emotion.

Rona Johnson and Tina Green. How could two teenaged girls go so bad? Do so much harm ? And , the worst shooting to him was the woman with the baby.

He pursed his lips in deep reflection. Susan Mullins. She was in her own driveway about to take her son from his car seat. All the victims were innocent but this one just hit him harder for some reason.

It could have been Aiden. The thought flickered through his mind and was gone as quickly as it came. He swallowed. What if it had been Aiden getting out of his car ...... What if...... He shook his head. No. It wasn't. Aiden was fine and working at the newspaper. He had even texted him earlier a picture of some waffles he had made that morning. A little burnt but he had made them himself, Aiden had bragged.

God , he loved that man. Then he froze in his chair. Love? Wasn't it a little early even thinking about love? , he mentally chided himself. They had just started seeing each other. And , the kid..... , A.J. , didn't really seem happy about that. No. It was too early to think about love so he made a point to keep it to himself and not do something dumb. Like blurt it out to Aiden Norris.

He turned back to his computer where he was working on a couple of cases. But his concentration was broken by the entrance into his office by Peter Wong who looked irritated and angry.

Peter said through gritted teeth ," Where are you on the store robbery and the other one? "

Paul looked at him wearily. He was tired. He had been doing way too much overtime. In fact the state attorney had called him on the carpet about just that. They didn't like overtime during a budget crisis. In fact he was demanding that Paul take some time off. Maybe he should. He wondered if Aiden was up to going on some day trips around the holidays.

He rubbed at his head. " With Tina Green I'm going to move it into adult court even though she is only fourteen. She's being charged with seven  counts of attempted murder in the first degree as well second degree. And the robbery charges. I'm adding on gun charges as well. If convicted she will be going away for a very long time. What a waste of a young life. Rona Johnson, I'm thinking can stay in juvenile......"

Peter snapped," No. I want her charged as an adult. She's just as responsible as the other one. She was there. She should be charged with the attempted murders of the two teens too. And the murder of the mother. She's an accessory. "

Paul sat back in his chair. " Murder? Nobody is dead. "

Peter laughed harshly. " You're out of the loop, buddy. Apparently. I have connections at the hospital. Susan Mullins is legally brain dead. I know you are a bleeding heart about kids but fuck that. I want these kids to pay. Both of them. Have Rona Johnson in adult court. Have her rearrested for the other shootings and the murder. Today. "

" Peter......"

" Don't Peter me. Don't forget my father is a democratic congressman for Maryland. If you don't play the game right I'll make sure you never practice again in this county. Or the state. "

Paul stood up and snapped," Don't threaten me, Wong. I have just as many connections as you do."

" Then do your job. And , your little parents mean nothing next to my father.Oh , and I just saw the state attorney. He agrees. Get it done. Today. "
