They were going to send them back.
As Richie Jenkins was sprawled on his bed with an arm tossed back over his eyes he knew this in his head but he didn't want to believe it in his heart.
Sure. Nigel hadn't said it in words but of course they would. Why the hell would he and Richard Norland want him and Tanisha in the house still knowing the truth? That they were related to that awful girl who shot Richard and Luci and Nicole and all those other people.
He sat up and covered his distressed face with his hands. It was bad enough Lewis hated him now and didn't want to date him, be his friend, whatever but.....
He didn't want to go to foster care. He didn't want his sister in some stupid hospital for slow kids. And.... And he didn't want to leave..... He didn't want to leave the two men he was actually starting to like. Even old Judge Wide Load. And , he didn't want Tanisha to have to go. Maybe he could talk them into letting at least her stay ?
Maybe......
Then his phone dinged with a notification and he picked it up. It was Nigel.
Nigel: I know what you are thinking. Because if it had been me at your age in the same situation I would be thinking the same thing. I don't want to be a right pisser and disturb your pity party, son , but we're not making you or your sister leave. You're our children. And, we already lost Lewis in a way. We're not losing you and Tanisha.
Richie couldn't believe it. He wanted to both laugh and cry.
Then he got another text. This one from Richard.
Richard: What Nigel said I agree with. You and Tanisha will always stay with us.

Nita Browne dropped into a chair in the surgical waiting room next to Vonnie Williams, Wally's wife , and handed her a hot coffee from the vending machine.
Vonnie nodded. " Thanks, Wally's work wife. "
Nita laughed. " I don't know about that. "
Vonnie laughed back. " I do. He loves you. "
Nita felt tears fill her eyes. " I love him too. He's my brother from another mama and daddy. We can't lose that bastard. "
Vonnie reached out to grab Nita's hand and squeezed it. " We won't. He promised me Paris one day. "
Then the door opened and out walked the doctor in rumpled blood stained scrubs.
" Mrs. Williams ? "
