" Spencer," Winston said over the phone to his half brother as he was painstakingly feeling an organic mango for ripeness at Trader's Joe near the house. Joe was so picky about his fruit and vegetables so he had to be careful when grocery shopping. " Guess what? Oh , and how is young Luci doing? "

Spencer was back at the house in his living room with Miracle napping in the playpen as he looked idly out of the large picture window. DuBuis was in the kitchen preparing a Mexican pizza with Sol , Theodore and Alan who had came over after Theodore texted him they were back home. " Luci is fine. She's resting. They say she may be released sometime next week but she's already upset over missing classes. She emailed Gerald about doing extra credit assignments. "

Winston laughed as he bagged up the mango carefully and placed it in his shopping cart. "Sounds like our Luci. "

" Susan Mullins is brain dead. "

Winston stopped abruptly in the middle of the snack aisle. He shook his head, a solemn expression on his scarred face. " I'm sorry to hear that. The poor family. How's the husband taking it? "  He didn't know what he would do if it had been Joe. He didn't want to even think about it. Suddenly he missed his husband very much. He wanted to hug Joe.

Spencer sighed as he stared at his rose garden. What would happen to Susan's roses now ? , he thought. Mark had no green thumb. Like DuBuis. " Mark is in denial with bursts of anger. He doesn't believe it. DuBuis tried to talk to him and he told him to leave. "

( " If you can't be supportive," Mark shot out," just leave. Now. Go home with your husband and your kids and be blessed. Just leave us alone. ")

" He's grieving ," Winston said as he headed to the checkout. He decided he had done enough shopping for today. He just wanted to go home now. " It's understandable. "

" Yes. It is. What did you call about again? The campaign? "

As he gazed at a newspaper at the checkout that had a front page article about the recent shootings along with big pictures of the girls, Susan Mullins and her family, Detective Williams and the accused shooters Winston replied," It's about the campaign, yes. And , your main platform. I just got off the phone with the Rebel show producer. They want you on Friday's show to talk about running for mayor, your platform etc etc etc. You and your opponents. Buckley Van Owen. Lazarus Jones. Kris Keller. And that Angeletti woman. So after I get home and rest a little I'm coming over to your house so we can brainstorm. "

Spencer closed his eyes behind his glasses. "That's fine. Bring Joe. There's Mexican pizza. But tell him not to irritate DuBuis. "
