" Good work on the Van Owen scoop , " Gary Rhodes said roughly as he strode confidently out of his editor's office into the crowded noisy  newsroom of the Washington Region. He came over to slap Scott Sands on the back heartily as Scott sat at his desk drinking a cup of the imported roasted coffee that Alexi kept him overstocked with.

Scott nodded smugly at the tall broad masculinity oozing editor in chief. " Thank you, Gary. I heard the campaign manager is having a fit over it. Wrongfully. I have evidence to back it all up. The wife is cheating with Senator Jacobs. Which is surprising. Jacobs looks mummified to me. If I was Van Owen I'd be mad too. "

They both laughed and shook their heads. Then Gary smirked and replied gruffly," Holmes can rage all he wants. We have the constitution on our side. And , our two esteemed owners don't really appreciate his little" agenda " remark on the news. Keep poking at this fire , Sands. Look even more into the wife , this affair, the kids even. Van Owen isn't as squeaky clean family values as he acts. "

" Got you, boss. "

As Scott turned back to his coffee and his laptop where he began doing a bit of research Gary's shrewd eyes were currently trained on his own former husband Aiden who was just now returning from lunch with his laptop case in one hand and a cranberry muffin in the other.

" Aiden ! Have you finished the obituaries for this week yet ? "

Aiden sighed deeply as he came to a stop before Gary. He retorted in an uncharacteristically sharp tone of voice," The week is not over yet. I'll have it all emailed by the weekend. Oh , and , by the way , did you get my email? I would like to do a story on the medical clinic that Susan Mullins' husband is using to do experimental treatment on her brain dead status. "

Gary's smirk grew as he regarded his ex. " Yeah. I got it. Good idea. I assigned it to Lena Fox. After all, she is an actual reporter with a proven track record. Now get back to work on the obituaries. Oh. And , what is this about the boy claiming to be trans now? "

Aiden thinned his lips. " Our child is not claiming anything. A.J. has now come out as a transgender girl. The pronouns are she and her now. Her name is Jade Liberty Norris. "

Gary laughed loudly. " God , Aiden. You have spoiled and ruined that child. He needs more discipline than you can apparently give him. Maybe it's time for me to get my lawyer to look into the custody arrangement. I did adopt him even if you are the biological parent. "

Aiden stepped closer to Gary. So close that the entire newsroom including Scott noticed and immediately grew quiet as they watched intensely.

" Don't even think about it," Aiden hissed in a low rough voice that seemed to be forced from his body. " You are her  adoptive father in name only. I am her father. She doesn't even want to visit you. Much less live with you. You and that man. And, I'm writing that story. I don't need your permission. I just wanted to give you a heads up on it. "

Then , as Gary glared at him in amazed wonder, Aiden went over to sit down at his desk.

Scott looked at Aiden and actually smiled in approval.
