" You figured it out," A.J. Norris said as they video chatted with Luci on their phone as they  also made their bed and packed their bookbag.

" Of course I did," Luci said from her hospital bed. "You put Norris in the email. I'm not stupid. That's Willow who you should really ask out because....."

A.J. rolled eyes and laughed. " I am not. I can't stand the girl. She's a bougie snob from hell. I'm not asking her out so you can keep her away from Sol Klein. Who by the way is not interested in her anyway so I don't know why you're worrying so much about Willow of the dark roots and push up bra. "

Luci pouted as she drank her milk from her breakfast tray. " Fine. Did you tell your dad you're transgender yet , Jade ? "

A.J. was about to answer when all of a sudden they heard from behind them Aiden saying," You're what? "

A.J.'s eyes widened and so did Luci at the sight of Aiden Norris in the doorway to A.J.'s bedroom.

" Thanks a lot , Luci ," A.J. said before clicking off the call.  Then they turned around and faced their confused father.

Aiden asked again," You're what? What was Luci talking about? Whose Jade ? "

A.J. rubbed their hands over their face. " Yeah. Right. Okay, Dad. I was looking for a good time to tell you. I'm.... I'm not gender neutral, okay. I'm.... I'm a girl. I'm not a boy. I'm not your son. I'm sorry. "  Their face trembled as tears filled their eyes. " Please don't hate me. "

Aiden shook his head. His face was still looking amazed and confused. " I could never hate you. Don't you realize that? I've loved you since the day you were born. I don't care if you are a boy , gender neutral, a girl, whatever. I just want you happy. " His grey eyes blinked back a rush of tears. " I'm a little hurt though because you thought I would hate you for coming out. I'm a gay man who got caught at ten wearing Granny's pearls and makeup. I'm the last person to judge you for anything. I love you. I always will. I can't say what Gary will say but...... you know what? Who cares what he would say? "

Aiden came over to sit on the bed and A.J. joined him. " So ? What name am I calling you? Pronouns ? Educate me, so..... daughter."

A.J. smiled at him , suddenly feeling so happy and relieved. " My name is Jade Liberty Norris. My pronouns are she and her. I'm your daughter and I love you, Dad. "

Aiden hugged Jade tightly and murmured," I love you too, Jade. Now come downstairs. I'm experimenting with omelets. "
