That couldn't be. It just couldn't be.....

Justin Duncan narrowed his eyes at the copy of the Hyattsville Eagle that was laying on the end table in the student commons area at Woodward Memorial College. On the front page was a big color picture of the Van Owen family.

Smug looking Buckley Van Owen and his prune faced wife Judge A.R. Van Owen with their two children, serious faced Celeste and shy eyed B.J. who was standing next to a girl that the newspaper was  calling his girlfriend Natalie Lowen.......

His girlfriend?

What the fuck?

           ------------

B.J. was just leaving his English 101 class when his father's campaign manager called him on his cell phone.

Why the man had called was beginning to irritate him.

" Good afternoon, Buckley Jr. ," Jackson Holmes said in his usual energetic and confident voice. " I'm calling to tell you I've arranged some casual dates for you and that very attractive young Natalie Lowen. You two make quite a nice looking couple. "

B.J. made a face. He couldn't stand that girl. She was so selfish and self absorbed. All she talked about was shopping and traveling to big cities to do more shopping. Her major was actually business only so she could start a party planning thing after graduation. Even if he was straight he would not want her. But he wasn't and all he wanted in his life was Justin Duncan. He couldn't wait to tell Justin he had an interview for the legal clerk job at his uncle's firm. Not that he was going to actually drop Justin's name as a reference to the lawyer. He wanted to get hired on his own capabilities and not who he knew.

" We're not a couple. And , I'm not going on dates with her. "

" Come on , Buckley Jr. , it helps your father's image for the public to see you in a strong happy healthy relationship with a pretty young woman. I've arranged for you to have dinner with her Saturday night at Richard and Nigel's......"

Oh , hell no.  He was supposed to have dinner with Justin at his place that night. The last thing he wanted was to miss time with the young man he thought he was falling for to hang around some girl he didn't like and could never be attracted to.

" No , " he shot out tersely as he hung up abruptly. He knew that he would hear about it from his father but he didn't care. He was tired of being forced to act a certain way in public. Then his phone began to ring again as he walked across the campus thinking about Justin.

He smiled when he saw who it was ringing his phone. Justin.

" Hi ," he said softly as he answered.

Justin replied in a tight voice," Why the hell are you dating this Natalie Lowen ? I thought you said you were gay ? What game are you playing, B.J. Van Owen ? "
