" Wait a minute, Misty. Don't you think you're being too hard on Nurse Joy?"
" You have to understand that I've admired her since I was a kid."
Tears welled in her eyes. " I'm a water Pokemon trainer, and I dreamed that one day I'd get to meet the famous Lake Lucid Nurse Joy, and if I was really lucky I might be able to visit her Pokemon center and have her examine my Pokemon for me. And now, at last, I'm finally here and she won't even come near my Pokemon."
" Pika pika pi..." Pikachu said as he rubbed her leg. Misty bit her lip, and a soft sob escaped.
" Oh, Misty, please don't cry!" Ash said as he ran to her side and hugged her. Misty buried her face in his shoulders and sobbed.

" So, Ash, I have a question." Brock said as they entered the forest.
Ash turned back. " Yeah?"
" Do you and Misty like each other?"
Ash and Misty blushed. " B.... brock what makes you say that?" Misty sturrered.
" Y...yeah. we're just friends!" Ash added.
Brock rolled his eyes. " Yeah yeah. I can see through it, you know."
Ash glanced at Misty. " Should we make a run for it?"
Misty nodded, and Ash let her hop onto his back.
Then he ran.
Or tried to.
" Ash, be careful!" Misty yelped.
" I'm trying!"
" AAAAAAAAAAAAAH!" Misty yelled as she flailed her arms.
" Sorry!"
" Ash, run forward!"
" I am!"
Ash, still determined, ran forward with Misty clinging to his back, but his sense of direction had other plans. Within seconds, they smashed into a low-hanging branch.
"Ow!" Misty yelped, her grip tightening around Ash. "Could you at least avoid the trees?"
"Working on it!" Ash replied, squinting ahead. But it was too late—crash! Another tree, this time directly into his shoulder, sent him stumbling sideways.
"Try turning left!" Misty suggested, barely holding back a laugh as she saw Brock smirking from a distance.
Ash veered to the left, but his foot snagged on a tree root, sending them sprawling forward into another tree with a dull thud.
Misty clung tighter. "Ash! This is getting worse! Can we just—"
"Hold on!" Ash shouted, charging again. But forward progress was fleeting as he ricocheted off three trees in quick succession. Each impact made Misty wince.
"Ash, we're going backwards!" Misty exclaimed, watching Brock becoming more distant.
"Trust me, we're fine!" Ash said, trying to reassure her. He took two more determined steps forward, only to suddenly skid on a mossy patch, launching them backward through a clump of bushes, straight into a towering pine.
"Pikachu, help!" Misty shouted, clinging on for dear life. Pikachu, watching from Brock's side, was beside himself with laughter, rolling on the ground as Ash's attempts to navigate the forest became more of a comedy routine.
"See? Totally under control," Ash managed, breathless as he finally stopped, bracing against a tree trunk. He took a triumphant step forward... and tripped, plopping both of them down in a pile of leaves.
"Under control, huh?" Misty teased as she disentangled herself, laughing through her relief.
Ash blushed, rubbing his head. "Maybe I went a few steps back... but we're getting there!" He glanced at Misty and grinned sheepishly.
"Fifty steps back, but who's counting?"
