In the Palm of my hand

The cave fell silent as the combined Thunderbolts from Pikachu and the newly transformed Jolteon collided with Mew’s Solar Beam. The energy rippled through the cavern, lighting it up with a blinding flash of electricity and light. When the dust settled, Mew hovered midair, its form glowing faintly as it wobbled slightly, clearly exhausted.

The group stood frozen, hearts pounding, as Wisty stepped forward, Pokéball in hand. “Mew, you’ve been holding onto so much for so long,” she said softly. “It’s okay to let go. It’s me. Remember?”

Mew stared at her, its bright blue eyes narrowing briefly before its glow dimmed. It gave a soft, almost resigned cry of “Mew…” and floated gently into her Pokéball.

For five seconds.

Then it came out and flew away.

Everyone watched

The cave erupted into shocked silence.

“She… she actually did it,” Goh whispered, breaking the spell. “She caught Mew.”

Wisty stood, brushing dust off her jacket like it was no big deal, before turning to the group.

Gary, still squinting, pointed at her with narrowed eyes. “Wait a second. Shape-shifting Eevee. Togepi with a penchant for chaos. And now this swagger?” His voice rose with realization. “Wisty?!”

Finally, Wisty turned, flashing an impish grin. “Took you long enough, Gary Berry. I was wondering when you’d catch on.”

Gary groaned. “Don’t call me that.”

“You make it so easy,” Wisty quipped, hands on her hips, before glancing at the others, all equally stunned.

Goh was the first to recover, pointing at the Pokéball in her hand. “You actually caught Mew?!”

Wisty shrugged. “Maybe. What’s the big deal?”

“What’s the big deal?!” Quillon spluttered, stepping forward. “That’s Mew! The rarest Pokémon in existence! And you just strolled in here, dodging Solar Beams and Hyper Beams, like it was your weekend hobby?”

Danika couldn’t help but chuckle at Quillon’s outburst. “I mean, he’s got a point. That was kind of… incredible.”

Wisty shot a smug look at Quillon. “Glad you think so, Dani. Though Quillon here probably has a different opinion.”

Quillon scowled. “Of course, I do! You just waltz in, risk your life, and steal the prize right out from under us!”

Wisty’s grin widened. “Aw, don’t be mad, Quilly. You were doing so well. Almost looked competent for a second there.”

That was the last straw. “You’ve got some nerve—”

“Yeah, yeah, I know. I’ve got nerve, I’m reckless, blah blah. Heard it all before.” Wisty waved a hand dismissively. “The real question is, why are you even here? I thought this was a job for the competent trainers.”

“Oh, burn,” Horace muttered under his breath, earning a glare from Quillon.

Goh stepped between them before things escalated further. “Okay, let’s just take a breather here. Wisty, why are you here? And how do you even know Mew?”

Wisty crossed her arms, her playful grin softening into something more genuine. “I’ve known Mew for years. We met when I was a kid, and it just… stuck with me. We’ve got a bond, okay? And I didn’t steal anything. Mew wanted me here.”

Gary folded his arms. “And you didn’t think to mention that earlier?”

“What, and miss the grand reveal?” Wisty teased. “Come on, Gary Berry, where’s your sense of drama?”

Goh sighed. “This is insane. First, you show up out of nowhere with a shape-shifting Eevee and a Togepi that probably knows how to hack computers. Now you’re casually catching Mew. What’s next? Arceus?”

Wisty winked. “Maybe. Who’s asking?”

Danika laughed. “I have to admit, Wisty, you’ve got style. Reckless, but style.”

Quillon, still fuming, turned to the others. “Are we really just going to let her walk away with Mew like this?”

“Yup,” Wisty said cheerfully, tossing the Pokéball up and down before slipping it into her pocket. “Because there’s nothing you can do about it. Oh, and Quillon?” She leaned in close with a devilish smile. “Better luck next time.”

With that, she turned and started walking out of the cave, her team of Pokémon falling into step behind her. Togepi waved a tiny hand. “Toge-toge!”

The group stood in stunned silence as Wisty disappeared into the distance.

“Well,” Horace said finally. “That was… something.”

“Something?!” Quillon snapped. “That was a disaster!”

Danika patted him on the shoulder. “Cheer up, Quilly. At least she didn’t call you anything worse.”

Quillon groaned. “I hate her.”

Gary smirked. “Yeah, but you have to admit—she’s kind of amazing.”

Quillon muttered under his breath as the group gathered their gear and prepared to leave. They all knew one thing for sure: Wisty had stolen the show, and there was no chance any of them were going to forget it anytime soon.
