The air sizzled with tension as Pikachu and Jolteon’s combined Thunderbolt tore through the battlefield. Mew’s Solar Beam collided with the crackling electric attack in a spectacular explosion of light and power, shaking the ground beneath them.
“Hold steady!” Wisty shouted, her voice rising over the deafening roar. "We can't let Mew get away! Everyone, keep pushing!"
The team of Pokémon responded with unwavering determination. Flames, water, leaves, and wind swirled together in a coordinated onslaught against Mew. But Mew, agile and defiant, darted through the barrage, its movements impossibly fast.
"She's insane," Quillon muttered under his breath, watching Wisty command her Pokémon with a ferocity that rivaled any trainer he had ever seen. "Absolutely insane."
"Hey!" Goh yelled over the chaos, turning to Quillon. "Maybe try not insulting the person currently holding off Mew!"
Quillon scowled but said nothing, his eyes narrowing as he watched Wisty rally her Pokémon for another attack.
“Eevee, turn into Espeon! Psychic, now!” Wisty called, tossing her hair back. The shapeshifting Eevee elegantly flipped in mid-air, glowing with a soft pink light as it transformed into Espeon and sent a shimmering wave of Psychic energy toward Mew.
Mew dodged effortlessly, its eyes gleaming as it powered up another Hyper Beam.
"That's it," Gary muttered, his fists clenching. "If she doesn’t move, she’s going to get herself killed."
"She knows what she's doing," Danika said quietly, though her expression betrayed her doubt. "I think."
Wisty stood firm, unmoving, her eyes locked on Mew. “Pikachu, Thunderbolt again! Espeon, confuse it!”
Pikachu’s electric attack crackled through the air, and Espeon’s Confusion pulsed toward Mew. The two attacks intertwined in a dazzling display of power, striking Mew directly. For the first time, the mythical Pokémon faltered, its ethereal form wavering slightly.
“Yes!” Goh shouted. “She’s got it!”
But before anyone could celebrate, Mew let out an ear-piercing cry, its body glowing with an intense light. It darted upward, leaving the battlefield behind.
Wisty stood tall, panting as she lowered her arm. “It’s done.”
“Done?!” Quillon snapped. “It got away! What was the point of all that?!”
Wisty turned her head slightly, a sly smile creeping onto her face. “You’ll see.”
Before anyone could ask what she meant, she pulled a smoke bomb from her pocket, tossed it to the ground, and disappeared in the ensuing cloud.
The group erupted into coughing fits, waving the smoke away. When the air cleared, Wisty was gone.
“Wait…” Gary’s voice broke the silence, his brow furrowing. “A shapeshifting Eevee… A Togepi… No way.”
Everyone turned to him, confused.
“What is it?” Goh asked.
Gary’s eyes widened, and he snapped his fingers. “That was Wisty!”
The group froze.
“What?!” Quillon barked, his expression darkening. “You’re telling me that was Wisty?”
“Of course, it was,” Gary said, groaning. “Who else has a shape-shifting Eevee and a Togepi that’s a complete menace? Ugh, how did I not see it earlier?”
Just then, a voice echoed from the cliffs above. “Finally, Gary Berry. I was wondering when you’d figure it out.”
They all looked up to see Wisty standing atop the cliff, her silhouette framed by the setting sun. She smirked, her hands on her hips.
“Wisty!” Gary yelled, frustration and disbelief mixing in his voice. “What the heck are you doing here?!”
Wisty laughed. “Oh, you know, saving your butts. You’re welcome, by the way.”
“You call that saving us?” Quillon growled, fists clenched. “You nearly got us all killed!”
“Oh, relax, Quilly,” Wisty shot back, her tone dripping with mockery. “I handled it, didn’t I?”
Quillon’s face turned red with anger, but before he could retort, Wisty waved her hand dismissively. “Anyway, I’ve got places to be. Try not to mess things up too badly without me.”
With that, she turned and disappeared over the ridge, leaving the group stunned and silent.
Danika was the first to speak. “Well… that was something.”
“Yeah,” Goj muttered, rubbing his temples. “And to think she actually called you Gary Berry.”
“She’s been doing that for years,” Gary said, smirking.
Horace, still recovering, blinked. “So, uh, anyone want to explain why she hates Quillon so much?”
Danika laughed nervously. “Trust me, Horace. That’s a story for another time.”
