Boom!
May yelped and dived to the bed quickly, using the blanket to shield her
Her knight in green hair was who knows where in the Pokemon center.
He was probably doing a Pokemon battle in the thunder.
Heavy steps.
Groans.
Booms.
May jumped, quickly diving into the blanket and curled up.
The door opened. " May?"
Drew stepped in and looked around. " May? Where are you?"
He heard breathing.
Quick breathing.
He walked his way to the bed and felt the blanket. It jumped slightly, then trembled.
Drew kicked his shoes off and crawled under the blanket. " Hey."
May looked at Drew with wide eyes, then jumped into his warm arms.
" Hey, hey, what's up, May?"
May didn't reply. She hugged Drew tighter, her eyes squeezed shut.
" It's the thunder isn't it?"
May nodded, her face buried in his shoulder as she held onto him like he was her lifeline. The storm rumbled outside, each crash of thunder making her flinch slightly. Drew wrapped his arms around her, rubbing soothing circles on her back.
“It’s alright, May,” he murmured softly, resting his chin on top of her head. “It’s just noise. It can’t hurt you.”
May pulled back just enough to look up at him, her eyes wide and still a little fearful. “But... it feels like it’s right here. Every time it crashes, it’s like it’s getting closer…”
Drew gave her a small smile and brushed a stray lock of hair behind her ear. “Hey, I’ve got you. Nothing’s going to happen while I’m here, okay?”
She looked at him, a little reassured but still nervous. “You really mean that?”
Drew chuckled softly. “Of course. I’ll be your thunder shield.” He pulled her back into his arms, holding her tight. “And you know what? If it gets too loud, we can just talk over it. I’ll keep talking until you don’t even notice it anymore.”
May managed a small smile at that, nestling closer to him. “You’ll just keep talking, huh? About what?”
Drew shrugged, a playful glint in his eyes. “I could tell you all the reasons why I’m the best Coordinator around. Or all the times I’ve beaten you in a contest.” He grinned, knowing that would get a reaction from her.
May laughed softly, rolling her eyes despite her lingering fear. “You’re so full of yourself, Drew.”
“Hey, it worked, didn’t it?” He teased, giving her a gentle squeeze. “But really, May, I’m right here. I’m not going anywhere, no matter how loud it gets outside.”
As another boom echoed, May instinctively tightened her hold on him. But this time, with Drew’s steady presence next to her, she felt a little braver.
