“ I feel awful.” May moaned as Drew rubbed essential oils on her neck and hands.
“ I know you do, May. You’ve been stressed out.” Drew whispered as he put more oil on his hands, rubbed it, and rubbed it all over May.
“ But it stings.” She whined. “ Can’t I just rest?”
Drew raised a brow. “ That’s never worked for you, remember? You always end up getting worse.
May grumbled. Drew sighed and shook his head fondly.
“ Look, if you’re good I’ll take you to the mall. Happy?”
May turned. “ I don’t even like the mall.”
“ Then what DO you want?”
“ To win against you in a battle.”
Drew rolled his eyes. “ Fine, When you’re all better I’ll go easy on you and we can battle.”
May sighed softly. “ Sure.”
Drew turned her back to face her, then took some Vicks and put some on her nose. “ There.” He said. “ Rest well, May. I’ll see you after you wake up from your nap.
May smiled as she snuggled closer to the pillow. “ Okay.” She said, her voice thick with sleep. “ See you then.”
May let out a half-hearted groan, her eyes narrowing at Drew. “Dre-hew-hew-hew!” she grumbled, drawing out his name in a whiny tone. “We really don’t need to do all this, you know!”
Drew chuckled softly, undeterred by her complaints as he carefully dipped an ear swab into a small bottle of oil, the scent of eucalyptus wafting gently into the air. “Yes, we do, May,” he replied calmly, turning his gaze to her with a look of gentle determination. “You know how stubborn you are, right? If we don’t take care of this now, you’ll just keep feeling worse. You’ll thank me later, I promise.”
May huffed, crossing her arms in a pout, but the corners of her mouth betrayed the faintest smile. Drew always had a way of knowing exactly what she needed, even when she refused to admit it. But as he tilted her head gently, exposing her ear for the oil treatment, she couldn’t shake the feeling of unease.
“Just… be careful, okay?” she mumbled, her voice barely above a whisper.
Drew nodded reassuringly, his voice soft but firm. “I will. Just relax. This is to help you, alright?”
He brought the swab closer to her ear, applying the oil with the utmost care. But as the oil touched her sensitive skin, a sharp sting shot through her ear, causing her to tense up immediately. “Ah!” she gasped, her hand instinctively reaching for Drew’s arm. The pain was more intense than she’d anticipated, radiating from her ear and making her wince.
Seeing her reaction, Drew quickly softened his touch, his face full of concern. “Easy, May, easy,” he whispered soothingly, letting her grip his arm as tightly as she needed. He paused, allowing her a moment to breathe through the discomfort. “I know it stings a bit. I’m right here with you, okay? Just take a few deep breaths.”
