" Open your eyes, May."
May blinked her eyes open from her laying down position, and someone shone a light into it. It wasn't bright nor dark. It was just right
Then the person gently put a disc into her chest. " Breathe, May."
May coughed.
The person frowned. " May, if you keep this up you're gonna cough your lungs out."
May shot the person a look. " Thank for the words of wisdom, Knight with Green hair."
The person chuckled and flicked his hair. " Sweetie, it doesn't work like that."
May rolled her eyes and turned, closing them. " I just..... I just wish I was out there and not sick in here, Drew."
Drew gave her a soft, sympathetic smile, settling down next to her. He reached out, brushing a strand of hair from her face. "I know, May," he said quietly. "Believe me, I’d much rather have you out there with me, too. But right now, the best thing you can do is rest."
May sighed, shifting on the bed and curling up a little tighter under the blankets. "I hate this," she muttered, her voice cracking slightly. "I feel so useless. Stuck in here while you’re out doing all the work."
Drew shook his head, his voice gentle but firm. "Hey, don’t say that," he said, reaching for her hand and squeezing it lightly. "You’re not useless, May. You’re just... a little down right now." He grinned, giving her hand a reassuring squeeze. "Everyone needs a break sometimes—even you."
She closed her eyes for a moment, letting his words sink in. Drew had always been there for her, even when she wasn’t at her best, and she felt a sense of calm just having him by her side.
After a moment, Drew leaned back, glancing at her with a mischievous glint in his eyes. "And besides," he added, "you’re giving me a solid excuse to dodge those fan girls for a few days. So technically, you’re doing me a favor."
May’s lips curved into a weak smile. "Oh, so that’s what I am to you now? An excuse?" she teased, her voice soft and slightly raspy.
Drew laughed, reaching up to flick her forehead gently. "Nah, you’re way more than that," he replied, his voice softening. "You’re my... well, you’re my partner. And that’s why I’m here, right by your side, until you’re feeling better."
She looked at him, touched by his words, and gave his hand a small squeeze in return. "Thanks, Drew," she whispered, finally letting herself relax a little.
"Anytime, May," he murmured, brushing a gentle kiss against her forehead. "Now get some sleep. I’ll be here when you wake up."
With his reassuring presence beside her, May closed her eyes, feeling just a little bit better as she drifted off to sleep.

May's eyelids fluttered open, but the room spun uncontrollably, making her head feel as though it was filled with sand. Her throat burned with each shallow breath, and every inch of her body ached as if she'd run a marathon in her sleep. Confusion clouded her vision, and panic surged through her veins. She tried to move, to sit up, but her limbs felt heavy, unresponsive.
A sharp pain throbbed in her chest, making her gasp for air. Her heart raced, pounding against her ribs like a relentless drum. And most unsettling of all, Drew wasn't there. The comforting presence that had been by her side earlier was nowhere to be found.
Tears welled up in her eyes, blurring her vision as she realized the depth of her distress. The room felt cold and unfamiliar, the sterile scent of antiseptic filling her nostrils. She pressed her palms against her chest, trying to steady her racing heart, but the effort only intensified the pain.
