Unchained Melody (Daniel Ricciardo)

To donate or not to donate.

The silence around the table is deafening, both Seb and Melissa know it's best not to speak right now.

Ayla and Daniel are just looking at each other, Daniel clearly feels a bit hurt that Ayla just told Melissa she would donate her eggs without even consulting him about it.
It's a pretty big thing, because it would mean that Seb and Melissa would have a child that is half Ayla and Daniel isn't too sure how he feels about that.

Ayla feels stunned that Daniel said that. For her it's something you do for your friends, she always wants to make everybody around her happy. If donating some of her eggs might help Melissa and Seb have the family they want and should have, then she doesn't get why Daniel is making a problem out of it.

"Daniel... wha...?" She starts but he shakes his head.
"Not now and not here."
That's all he says before he takes the last sips of his beer.
The tension around the table is so thick you can cut it with a knife.

Seb looks around to find the waiter. He feels it's probably the best thing to just get the check, pay and head back for the night. Daniel and Ayla have a lot to talk about and it's best that they do that alone.

Luckily the waiter spots Seb and he comes over to clear the table.
"Can we have the check please?" Seb asks.
"Of course, nobody wants a dessert or coffee?"
"No, not tonight thanks." Melissa answers.

She feels guilty that her problem has now caused tension between Daniel and Ayla. Of course what Ayla said was very generous and kind. But Melissa does agree with Daniel that it's a huge thing to do and especially with Daniel and Ayla wanting children together, it's something both have to agree on.
It's not like giving your friend a pair of shoes.

Donating eggs could lead to a baby and she realizes that baby would be biologically Ayla's. Them being close to Seb and Melissa would mean being confronted with that baby all the time.

Melissa understands that Daniel would find that difficult, especially if they don't have kids of their own yet. What if anything happens to Ayla and she would end up unable to have children after that?
That would make it even harder for Daniel and Ayla to see 'Ayla's' baby being raised by another couple.

So for Melissa, Daniel's reaction makes sense. She just hopes this won't cause any damage to the relationship between their two best friends. The bond between Daniel and Ayla is so strong that she truly can't see that change, but she once let something come between her and Seb even though they too had a strong connection.
She's just happy Ayla interfered and got them back together to talk things through.

Sure she and Seb will have a massive hurdle to take right now and she is scared for the outcome if it ends with her never getting pregnant, but it's not something Ayla has to fix.
Melissa will tell her that if it's necessary, she would never accept Ayla to donate her eggs if that will ruin her relationship with Daniel.

The waiter comes back with the check and before Daniel can pick it up, Seb has already swiped his card through the machine to pay.
"Next one is on us." Daniel simply states and Seb nods.
"Sure. We're sorry to cut this short, but I think me and Melissa are pretty knackered, so we should really get some sleep. I also think the two of you need some time to talk. So let's call it a night and then maybe tomorrow or the next day we can do something fun together."

Seb thinks it's best to leave things open and see how it goes between Daniel and Ayla. He's convinced that they will work it out, but they will need to take some time to talk.

The walk back to the cabanas is quiet, Ayla and Daniel haven't said a word to each other since Daniel said that he didn't want to have that conversation at the restaurant at that time.
