"It was negative... again." Melissa sighs as she tells Ayla her latest test result.
"Shit, I really hoped that this time it would work." Ayla feels gutted for her friend.
It has been the second embryo transfer and unfortunately this one didn't stick, just like the first one.
"How many embryos do you have left?" Ayla knows they had ten eggs to start with, but not all of them got fertilized.
"Three. So if none of those stick we will have to start all over again. I don't know if I can though. Those hormones were brutal and I hated how I acted while I was getting those injections. I was nasty to Seb and he doesn't deserve that."
Ayla sympathizes with Melissa. Obviously she doesn't know how it feels to go through that. Surely she has her hormones when she has her period, but that is not even close to what Melissa went through.
"Well maybe the third one will be the one that sticks. Third time's the charm right?"
Ayla knows it's a pretty lame attempt to reassure Melissa, but she doesn't really know what to say. Nothing sounds right and nothing she says will help Melissa in any way. She feels pretty useless as a friend because she can't do anything to help.
"We'll see. We decided to skip this cycle so we can try again during winter break. At least then Seb doesn't have to travel and we can just take it easier for a while. Maybe that will help."
Ayla just nods. She isn't religious, but she will say a prayer every day if that helps Melissa and Seb to finally be able to become the parents they so much desire to be.
Ever since Seb and Melissa really started their attempts to get pregnant, Ayla has been thinking about when she wants to start trying for a baby. If it was up to Daniel, they already would have been working on it.
But these last few months have been so crazy that Ayla just couldn't imagine also trying for a baby on top of it all.
But then again, she is going to turn thirty in January, so it feels like she shouldn't wait too much longer. She knows thirty isn't old, but Melissa isn't much older and she has fertility issues. When Ayla was younger she always wanted to be a mom before she turned thirty, now that won't happen, but she also knows she doesn't really want to wait much longer.
She wants a baby with Daniel. They might not have been together for that long, but that doesn't matter. He's the one, they are married and they both really want to have a family together.
Besides, you never know how long it can take, so maybe winter break is the perfect time to really start trying.
Melissa and Ayla decide to head back to the pit lane where the teams are working hard to get ready for the first practice of this final race weekend.
"Well I'm glad it's the final race of the season. I could use those three months to recharge."
She is pretty exhausted.
She decided to combine her work as the social media manager with the job as personal assistant for Christian. But that meant she was working two jobs at once and during race weekends it has been mental.
She was with Christian during meetings, during interviews and whenever he needed her. But she also had to make sure the content they put up was up to date and on time. She still had to come up with ideas for videos with Max and Checo, she still needed to check every story, reel or photo that would go up on their social media platforms.
It has been a lot, but she loves both jobs so somehow she managed to do it all.
She still hasn't been able to decide whether she would want to focus on the personal assistant job or stay in the social media position.
She loves making the content, she loves the creativity that goes into it and the team she is working with.
But she also really enjoys working for Christian and learning more about the team and how he manages it.
