Ayla pulls away from Daniel slightly as she hears Isabella asking her mom when they will stop kissing.
She did promise the girl they would sing some songs together and she doesn't want to disappoint Daniel's niece. She just got caught up in the moment and in the kiss with Daniel.
She will have to give him an even better thank you than this kiss, there's nothing she can think off that will even cover how much this means to her. How will she ever be able to show him the amount of gratitude she has for him doing this?
But first, she has a promise to stick to, so she turns to Isabella.
"What song did you want to sing Isabella?" She asks the little girl who immediately turns around with a massive smile on her face.
"Can we do the Vaiana song?"
Ayla nods, "of course we can."
She steps away from Daniel and walks back to her moms piano. Or her piano now.
He even has the stool that belongs with it, you can tell it's been used, but as soon as she sits down it brings back so many memories.
She is flooded by images of her mother behind this very piano, but instead of those images making her sad, they make her smile. This piano is part of so many amazing memories and now it's here, hopefully it will become a part of so many more.
She lets herself drift away for a moment, in her head she sees herself sitting behind it with a little girl next to her. The girl has honey blonde curly hair and silvery blue eyes. When she looks at the young girl, the girl looks up at her and smiles. She has Daniel's smile, but looks like Ayla.
Could that become reality someday? That her and Daniel start a family and she will be able to teach their own daughter, or son, to play piano as well? She never dared to imagine such a future for herself, but maybe it could become real.
"Aunt Ayla, will you sing for me now?"
Isabella's soft voice pulls her out of her thoughts.
Daniel's niece looks at her, her cute face filled with anticipation.
Ayla swallows when she hears Isabella call her aunt. They've only met today, but apparently the little girl already sees her as part of the family.
"Yes of course. I'm sorry I got a bit distracted. This piano used to belong to my mom and she taught me how to play on it. So it means a lot that it's here now and I get to play on it for you."
Isabella nods, she might be young, but she is very sensitive and understands the importance of what her uncle did for his new girlfriend.
"You don't have a mom anymore right? Grandma Grace told me."
"That's right. My mom passed away quite some years ago, but she was very talented when it came to making music."
And now Ayla is going to show her talent to Daniel's family. Of course Grace and Joe already know what she can do, but not Michelle and her kids.
Ayla chuckles, now she has two sisters in law named Michelle. But it's obvious that Daniel's sister is the complete opposite of John's wife.
"Alright, let's see if I still know this one." Ayla says, stretching her fingers.
She places them on the keys and starts to play.
"I've been staring at the edge of the water
Long as I can remember, never really knowing why.
I wish, I could be the perfect daughter, but I come back to the water, no matter how hard I try.
Every turn I take, every trail I track
Every path I make, every road leads back,
To the place I know, where I can not go
But where I long to be.
