Unchained Melody (Daniel Ricciardo)

Waiting

Waiting has never been Daniel's strongest point, but right now, as he is sitting in the waiting room of the hospital waiting for news about Ayla, it's the hardest thing he's ever had to do.

There's plenty of people walking around, a hum of their hushed voices fill the white painted halls outside of the room he is in.
Daniel doesn't hear them though. He barely notices there are other people around.
All he can hear is the rushing of the blood in his ears, his heartbeat seems like a sledgehammer banging against his eardrums.

He's staring at his blood stained hands. It has dried now so when he moves his fingers, it's like they are going to crack out of his skin.
There was so much blood, Ayla's blood. And now so much is on his hands that it makes him feel sick.

He feels a hand on his shoulder and he slowly looks up.
"Come on mate let's go wash your hands." Michael says as he gently helps his best friend stand up.
"No I have to wait here for when the doctor comes." Daniel protests.
"The bathroom is just there, you'll be back before you know it. They are still working on here so you have time to freshen up a bit."

Michael coaxes Daniel to the men's rooms which are just across the hall.
Daniel seems to be in complete shock. When they are standing in front of the wash basins, he is unable to move. He just stands there which makes Michael realize his friend won't be able to do this himself.

Almost as if he's helping a child wash their hands, he makes sure Daniel's hands are completely clean from any trace of blood. He doesn't stop washing them until the water that comes off is completely clear.

"I can't lose her Mike. What if she ...." Daniel whispers.
Michael can feel his heart break for his best friend, if he loses Ayla he will never recover. She is his world.
He has never seen Daniel love a woman as much as he loves Ayla.

Michael would be devastated too. He's very fond of her, she is kind, funny and she seems to be the only one able to pull Daniel through the rough times.

"No man, she's strong. She won't give up. You'll be able to take her home again. I'm sure of it."
He isn't really though.
He saw her right before she was put into the ambulance and she looked more dead than alive.

The news went around the paddock like a wildfire. Of course having two ambulances rush to the McLaren offices was enough to draw attention. But when Michael and Lando walked outside to see what was going on they found Lando's girlfriend in a state of panic.
She was barely able to explain what happened, but there were loads of people coming to see what all the fuss was about.

Including Christian. He heard the sirens and saw the ambulance drive past so he decided to follow it and check it out.
When he got there, security was already keeping people at a distance, but Christian saw Robert who was looking very distraught, so he managed to convince the security to let him through.

When Christian saw David being treated by paramedics he was extremely confused. Obviously he also thought David was dead so seeing him on the gurney was very strange. To say he was shocked was an understatement.

But then he also saw them working on Ayla and his heart just stopped.
On that floor was the young woman he cares so much about. The girl that might not be family in blood, but she's definitely family in every other aspect.
If Geri would find out about it, she would be devastated, just like him.

Right when the ambulance was about to leave with Ayla, Seb also showed up with Melissa.
Seb wasn't going to stop to watch what was going on, he knew there wasn't anything he could do, especially since the ambulances were already there.

But when he saw Christian almost running to follow the leaving ambulance, Seb realized it could very well be somebody from the Red Bull team.
They have been his family for years, so he needed to know if any of them got hurt.
