"Finally, we are alone," Rohit heard Neha, who sounded excited. He just wanted to be alone at the moment and not think about anything.
Neha hugged him from behind, but it didn't excite him or give him the warm feeling of love he expected. He removed her hands.
"Can we not do this now? I'm tired," Rohit said, moving to the balcony without waiting for a reply.
"Rohit, what is wrong with you? Do you not love me anymore?" Neha asked, following him.
"I'm not even sure if I ever loved you. I don't know what love is. There, you got your answer!" Rohit snapped, his mind a mess.
"What are you saying?" Neha asked, not understanding what was going on with Rohit.
"Okay, let me put it this way: First, tell me, Neha, what is love? Explain it to me," Rohit asked, turning fully toward her.
"Why do you love me, Neha?" Rohit asked again.
"Umm... you're a good person, I guess," Neha said, and Rohit chuckled at that.
"See, Neha, we don't even know why we're together. You've been my friend since I came to Mumbai. We lived in the same society. We just enjoy each other's company. And I don't think that's enough, Neha," Rohit explained.
"Are you breaking up with me?" Neha asked, shocked by everything that was happening.
"I don't know, but right now, I know we don't love each other, which is stopping us from finding real love. You're stuck with me too," Rohit said, trying to explain again.
"I'm going, Rohit. It's a breakup, fine!" Neha said and left the room.
Rohit sighed, watching his long-time friend walk out of the room, not as his girlfriend but as his friend.
He did feel lighter without the burden of answering her questions all the time, but the emotion was so heavy.
He didn't want that. He didn't want to lie to himself, but he was kind of emotionally dependent on Neha— she had been his close friend.
He felt bad about everything he had said, about how it ended.
Rohit looked around the room, only to find himself alone. What had he done? He had pushed his best friend out for his girlfriend, and now he had pushed his girlfriend away for his best friend.
"No, no, I didn't do it for Virat. It was because I didn't love her," Rohit thought to himself aloud.
"Ugh!" he groaned in frustration, overwhelmed by all the emotions he was feeling.
Amid all the chaos, the thought on the top of his mind was Virat's hug, Virat close to him. All he wanted to do was rush to Virat and have that moment again, that hug.
And he did exactly that. Rather than thinking and beating himself up, he ran to Virat's room.
As Virat unlocked the room, he realized how things would be now. He wouldn't have a roommate because Rohit would be with Neha, his girlfriend, and for some reason, he couldn't shake the feeling that sharing a room with someone else didn't fit anymore.
He stood in the balcony, watching the city, but all he could think about was Rohit.
He was still thinking that he was definitely straight... but maybe just not for Rohit.
His thoughts were interrupted when he heard the door open, and Rohit came into the room. Before Virat could say anything, he was engulfed in a tight hug by Rohit.
"Shocked" would be an understatement for Virat because just half an hour ago, Rohit had been with Neha, and now here he was.
Virat whispered, "Ro, what happened? Is everything okay?" He couldn't help but be worried.
