It was Virat who woke up first. He rubbed his eyes, only to see Rohit's face in front of him. He didn't know how long he stared, trying to fit the image into his mind.
He went upstairs, freshened up, and then decided to make breakfast for both of them. He prepared sandwiches and tea. Once done, he saw that Rohit was still sleeping on the couch.
He went near him. "Ro, wake up," he said softly, seeing him sleep so peacefully.
"Hmm?" Rohit responded.
"Ro, breakfast is ready," Virat said again.
"You made it? When did you wake up?" Rohit asked, rubbing his eyes and stretching his body. "We slept on the couch?"
"Is your back hurting?" Virat asked in concern.
"No, no. I was just asking," Rohit assured him.
"Go freshen up," Virat said, and Rohit noticed he had already freshened up. Then he noticed it was a sweatshirt Virat was wearing, not a shirt.
Virat saw him noticing and maybe understood what he was thinking. But he didn't say anything and moved into the kitchen. Rohit went to freshen up.
He heated up the tea and took it into the living room. They had breakfast in silence.
Rohit's phone rang, and he went upstairs to talk. Virat didn't want to be paranoid, but he couldn't help it. He just did the dishes to distract himself.
Rohit came downstairs to see Virat standing there, lost in thought.
"What happened?" Rohit asked, noticing him lost in his thoughts.
"Nothing," Virat said, moving to the living room. Rohit knew he was lying.
Rohit followed him and held his wrist. "What's going on, Vi?" he asked softly.
"It's nothing," Virat looked down, not meeting his eyes, trying to pull his hand from Rohit's grasp, but Rohit didn't let go.
Rohit held his chin up, only to see his eyes filled with pain. "Vi, kya baat hai? You know it disturbs me to see you like this. I really care for you, Vi... I can't see you like this," he said softly, cupping his cheeks in his hands.
"It's just lame... Can we please let it go?" Virat asked, his voice pleading.
"Okay, don't worry about it," Rohit said softly, in understanding.
They couldn't stop staring at each other. They had missed each other so much; it felt like they couldn't get enough of each other. They both wished time would stop for them.
How Rohit had missed Virat's brown eyes... but now, they had lost their shine. He was going to get it back. He was going to get his goofy friend back.
"I've missed your eyes so much," Rohit said, moving closer to him. Virat looked up in surprise.
"I was so lost without you," Virat said. "I was searching for you everywhere. You know, I was so angry with you. I was finding a place that wouldn't remind me of you and got drunk... a whole bottle. And..."
"And?" Rohit asked, caressing his cheek.
"And the next day, all I wanted to do was hug you and never let you go," Virat said with moist eyes.
"I'm sorry, Vi," Rohit said, joining his forehead with Virat's.
"I've never made myself dependent on anyone, Ro, but with you, it was different. For the first time, I felt like I could rely on someone," Virat said. "I don't want to be alone again."
"You will not be alone again, Vi," Rohit said, wiping his tears. He made a conscious effort not to say "I promise."
"You can rely on me, Vi, always," Rohit said softly.
Virat suddenly hugged him tightly, surprising Rohit, making him stumble a bit. He was quick enough to grab the couch for support.
Rohit hugged him back, and they sat on the couch, Virat on his lap, hiding his face in Rohit's neck. Rohit gently rubbed his back to calm him, to comfort him.
Virat just needed that physical assurance at that moment. Every time he closed his eyes, the loneliness hit him harder than ever. Rohit being so close was giving him warmth and assurance.
It was twenty minutes before Virat calmed down but still didn't let go of Rohit. Rohit just let him take his time.
Virat finally broke the hug, and Rohit wiped his face with his sleeve. Virat realized he was still on Rohit's lap, his legs around Rohit's waist, and Rohit was holding him tightly.
"I didn't realize," Virat said, not looking at him.
"You know I don't mind," Rohit said teasingly, which made Virat blush.
Rohit just admired him. Virat buried his face in his chest, feeling overwhelmed with emotions, and Rohit stroked his hair in understanding.
It was all warmth and comfort for Rohit, but he could feel the heat. He couldn't help but get affected by Virat's closeness. It had been almost a month, and he had craved this intimacy. Now they were so close, with no gap between them. But he didn't want Virat to feel rushed.
"I can hear your heart beating so fast," Virat said, as his head rested on Rohit's chest.
"Your effect," Rohit said, making Virat look up at him.
"You're right when you said your feelings didn't change for me, Vi. It's the same for me. Whatever happened, I wanted to protect you... I've missed being close to you. I didn't have any other option... it had to be your natural reaction. I'm sorry, Vi. But for you, I'd do anything. I've hurt you, but it hasn't changed that my feelings are the same. You're the most important person to me. What do you say... favouritest?" Rohit said sincerely and lovingly.
Rohit knew Virat needed a lot of assurance with words, and he was going to give him that.
Rohit moved a little and kissed Virat's forehead, which caused Virat to close his eyes and shed a tear. He wiped it away and hugged him.
"Ek request karu?" Rohit asked as they were still in the same position, close to each other.
"Ha?" Virat said, confused.
"Start wearing shirts again, please," Rohit said, caressing his cheek. "I just love seeing you in shirts," he continued. "Mere liye, if you've forgiven me."
"I will," Virat said, making Rohit smile.
Virat couldn't help but smile, seeing Rohit so happy.
"I should make something for us," Virat said, trying to get up from Rohit's lap.
"But I don't want to leave you. This feels so nice," Rohit said, holding him by the waist.
"It is, but for a change, Ro, I'm hungry," Virat said, quickly getting up from his hold.
Virat grabbed his hand and dragged him to the kitchen. "Help me, come on."
They had a great time preparing dinner and enjoying it together.
