"Tell me everything," Virat demanded, his voice firm but calm.
Aman hesitated before sitting down in front of him. He took a deep breath, trying to steady himself. Slowly, he began narrating everything he knew.
While he wasn't certain who had sent the information to Rohit, he shared all the details he had uncovered so far.
Virat listened intently, his expression shifting from initial shock to a numb stillness as the revelations sank in.
Rohit did this? For me? Virat thought. Even though the truth was now clear, the pain it brought was sharper— almost unbearable.
Aman shifted uncomfortably, murmuring under his breath, "Rohit sir is going to kill me."
Virat shook his head, his voice steady and reassuring. "He won't. Don't worry."
Aman straightened his posture, gathering his resolve. "We've got half the proof, Virat sir. I'll find the rest soon. I promise."
Virat gave a short nod. "Good. But don't tell Rohit you told me everything. That stays between us," he instructed firmly.
Without hesitation, Aman agreed. "I'm sorry, Virat sir," he said softly, guilt evident in his tone.
Virat walked over and placed a reassuring hand on Aman's shoulder before pulling him into a brief hug. "It's okay, Aman. You did the right thing by telling me."
After a moment, Virat stepped back, his exhaustion visible. "I need to take a walk," he said, his voice tinged with weariness.
"Just keep me updated on your whereabouts," Aman reminded, his concern evident.
Virat nodded, offering a faint smile before leaving the room.
Aman sat back at his desk, his fingers moving quickly over the keyboard. He knew the consequences of telling Virat everything would catch up with him later, but right now, finishing the task was more important.
"I'll deal with Rohit sir's reaction later," Aman muttered to himself, trying to focus on the urgency of the situation.
When Virat returned to the room, he found Aman sitting with his head buried in his hands. Concerned, he walked over. "What's wrong?" he asked softly.
Aman looked up, relief flooding his face. "You came back! I was so scared about where you went," he admitted, getting up and hugging Virat tightly.
Virat returned the hug, patting Aman's back gently. "I just went for a walk. Calm down," he said, his tone warm but lighthearted.
Aman buried his head in Virat's shoulder, his voice trembling. "I'm sorry, Virat sir. I only wanted to help. I didn't mean to hide anything. Please don't be mad at me," he said, his tears soaking Virat's shoulder.
Virat broke the hug and wiped Aman's tears. "Aman, it's fine. Don't cry. You're my friend first, and I know you were only looking out for me."
"You're not angry with me?" Aman asked hesitantly.
Virat smiled, lightly patting Aman's cheek. "You're only a year younger than me, but you act like such a kid sometimes."
Aman hugged him again, mumbling, "Tere bina man nahi lagta, Virat. If you're upset with me, my whole day feels ruined."
Virat chuckled at Aman's innocent complaint. "Acha ji," he teased.
Aman broke the hug, his expression serious. "You're my only friend, Virat. You have Rohit, but I don't have anyone else."
Virat shook his head with a fond smile. "Pagal hai tu," he said, wiping away Aman's tears again.
Their moment was interrupted as the door creaked open. Rohit stood in the doorway, his eyes fixated on them.
Rohit couldn't sit still in his room. Ever since he knew Virat was with Aman, his thoughts spiraled. He liked Aman— not romantically, but he respected him. And yet, Aman's bond with Virat made things harder.
Rohit liked Virat. And that complicated everything.
Unable to resist, he crossed the street to Aman's hotel. Standing outside the room, he hesitated before knocking. When there was no response, he turned the knob and found it unlocked.
The sight inside made him freeze. Aman was hugging Virat, and Virat had a gentle smile on his face.
It wasn't the hug that stung; it was the smile.
Rohit cleared his throat, shattering the moment. Both Virat and Aman pulled away, startled to see him standing there.
"Excuse us, Aman," Rohit said curtly, grabbing Virat by the wrist. Without waiting for a response, he led Virat out of the room.
"Rohit, what are you doing? Leave me!" Virat protested, confused by Rohit's sudden behavior.
They reached their room, and Rohit's phone buzzed. He still didn't let go of Virat's wrist as he checked the screen.
The message read:
Sent you the documents. The proofs confirm Virat Sir isn't involved.
P.S. Virat Sir knows. I'm sorry! I don't know who told you, and he doesn't either. Please forgive me.
Rohit's vision blurred as he read the message. His mind reeled, emotions crashing over him like a storm.
Virat noticed Rohit swaying, his hand instinctively going to his head as if to steady himself. "Ro? Are you okay?"
Before Rohit could answer, his legs gave out, and he fell forward.
"Rohit!" Virat exclaimed, catching him just in time. He held him close, gently shaking him. "Ro, wake up! What's wrong?"
Rohit remained limp in Virat's arms, leaving him panicked.
"Ro... Rohit," Virat called out again, gently shaking him, but there was no response.
Fear gripped Virat as he looked at Rohit's pale face. "Rohit, wake up! Please, don't do this!"
