MYRA'S POV

The man remained silent, as if his lips were glued. It was not a big deal but still, something pricked my heart when he avoided meeting my questioning but mostly worried gaze.

My jaw tightened as I looked away, knowing I wouldn't get an answer from him. The older, wiser lady in front of us must have recognized the tension.

Taking a deep breath, she stepped a little closer to me and broke the silence. "Siddharth has had a high fever and cold since morning but I am not even surprised. I knew this would happen."

The first half of her sentence caused my heart to shiver. Fever?
That's when I registered the surroundings, the bed was still not made which meant Siddharth was still laying down before I came.

There were several medicine strips laying on the side table, so that meant.. Siddharth was searching for a medicine when I came?

All of this explained him not going to the office. The realisation settled in and so did sank my heart.

"Yeh to ajj bhi office jane vala tha agar mai nahi rokti to."

Siddharth looked at the wall. His cheeks slightly reddened, maybe from the fever or the embarrassment. A tiny little pout lingered on his lips, like he had been caught up in a wrong act.

"Apko..kaise pata, that he would fall sick?" I asked, somehow hesitantly.

Mrs. Kapoor who was about to leave halted, a knowing smile came up to her face before she answered.

"Barish. Last night you both came drenched in rain right? Though I wonder how because you guys were on a car but not once has Siddharth not fell sick after getting drenched in rain. It doesn't suit him."

She looked at her son, with done expressions. "And he knows it well."

I looked at Siddharth, slight hurt underlined my eyes. His eyes lowered, as if he felt my gaze, though our gaze didn't matched.

"Myra, please make sure he finish all this food." was the last thing Mrs. Kapoor said before walking out of the room, leaving defianing silence and palpating tension behind.

"Why?" Was all I asked. Even I didn't appreciate the sharp edge to my tone, but it was the result of a tsunami of emotions swirling in my chest.

What was I feeling?

Anger, betrayal, gratitude, guilt? Maybe everything, all, at once.

Siddharth let free a soft sigh and stepped closer to me but me being me, I moved away before he could reach me.

"Pearl, hear me out," His tone was soft.

"Please.." Siddharth again attempted to reach me.

This time, instead of moving away, I turned my torso towards him. Due to us moving in each other's direction at the time; our bodies almost touched.

And when I tilted my face up to look in his eyes, all I could see was... my heart sank, flutters rose in my belly.

Love, a muffled voice echoed in the back of my mind but I was too frantic to admit.

"Sit." I held Siddharth's arm and made him sit on the edge of the bed.

The man complied without a second thought, I could feel his eager eyes staring at me, begging me to listen to his explanation.

I made myself comfortable beside him and stirred a spoon in the steaming soup Mrs. Kapoor just brought.
