MYRA'S POV
I sighed for the nth time, still not able to get a grip around the fact that Sanvi was not at home.
Instead she went out of the city with her friends because apparently my mother forgot to inform her about my arrival.
"No need to sit with a swollen angry face," The woman, responsible for the decline in my mood, continued to arrange Sanvi's clothes in my wardrobe which was almost empty now.
"Jab vo vapis aa jayegi to ussi din, tere ghar bhej dungi usko. Khush ab?"
"Yeh-" I glued my lips midway through my sentence.
Tere ghar, sometimes two words are enough to slice a cut through your heart.
Wasn't this place also my house?I let out a sigh and leaned my head against the headrest of the bed, arms crossed in front. A strangeness travelled through every ounce of my blood as I roamed my eyes around.
How fast could things change? It was almost laughable..
The place which was my very own two days ago, today I felt like a guest within those same four walls. Not a thing had explicitly changed yet the air just felt different.
"Acha Myra," The lady stopped her work and unturned her back towards me. A chill rippled through my spine at her serious tone.
That tone could only mean two things, I knew it, either she had some bizzare question to ask or a confession to make. Neither of the options appealed to me in that instance.
She sat on the edge of the bed, right in front of me. "I wanted to ask you something, but I want you to be absolutely honest."
A gulp went down my suddenly dried throat as I straightened my back and nodded.
It was almost 8 at night, my father would be back from his evening stroll anytime now and so would Siddharth, that's what his text said.
My mother spoke as if she feared even the walls to hear us. The silence in my room felt too ominous to sit still.
"Is Siddharth happy with you?"
My eyes narrowed in confusion. I don't know why but that question just sounded weird.
Her tensed forehead easily gave away that she wanted to dig deeper, She wouldn't stop here.
Nonetheless, I vaguely nodded my head.
"Yeah, I mean..we are good.." It had to be the stupidest thought I ever had but, talking about a happy married life in front of her felt like a sin. Like showing a mirror to someone who was blind.
She looked around though there was no one in the whole house except for us, well at least until now.
Scooting a little closer, my mother lowered her voice further before framing her next question with caution.
"I mean, are you guys planning for a child? I just want the best for you Myra and now that you are married,"
She forwarded her hand in an attempt to hold mine but I moved my palm further away. This wasn't going on the right path.
The older lady sighed, as if she was already expecting such a reaction out of me. Despite that her stereotypical words were continually thrown my way.
"Myra, listen to me with a cool head. You are a wife now, and you have certain duties. The duties of a good wife-"
